Systems and Methods for Improving the Efficiency of Combined Cascade and Multicomponent Refrigeration Systems
Systems and methods for improving the efficiency of combined cascade and multicomponent refrigeration systems by utilizing one or more ejectors to reduce and/or eliminate compression stages. The systems and methods change the temperature profile, which reduces the energy consumption of both the mixed refrigeration system and the pre-cooling system.
DUAL COLUMN NITROGEN PRODUCING AIR SEPARATION UNIT WITH SPLIT KETTLE REBOIL AND INTEGRATED CONDENSER-REBOILER
Enhancements to a dual column, nitrogen producing cryogenic air separation unit are provided. Such enhancements include an improved air separation cycle that uses multiple condenser-reboilers and recycles a portion of the vapor from one or more of the condenser-reboilers to the incoming feed stream and or the compressed purified air streams to yield improvements in such dual column, nitrogen producing cryogenic air separation units. The multiple condenser-reboilers preferably include an integrated condenser-reboiler arrangement comprising a heat exchanger having a set of nitrogen condensing passages, a first set and second set of boiling passages, and a phase separator.
ENHANCEMENTS TO A DUAL COLUMN NITROGEN PRODUCING CRYOGENIC AIR SEPARATION UNIT
Enhancements to a dual column, nitrogen producing cryogenic air separation unit with waste expansion are provided. Such enhancements include an improved air separation unit arrangement that uses: (i) three condenser-reboilers; (ii) a reverse reflux stream from the condenser-reboiler associated with the lower pressure column to the higher pressure column; (iii) a waste expansion cycle, and (iv) a recycle stream of a portion of the boil off vapor from one or more of the condenser-reboilers. The improved air separation cycle minimizes the backpressure of the lower pressure column and yields improvements in the nitrogen recovery as well as reductions in unit power consumption compared to conventional dual column, nitrogen producing cryogenic air separation units employing waste expansion.

RECOVERY OF NONCONDENSABLE GAS COMPONENTS FROM A GASEOUS MIXTURE
A process for recovering a noncondensable gas from a gaseous mixture, the method comprising the steps of: supplying a gaseous mixture comprising a noncondensable component; supplying a sweep gas comprising a condensable component; introducing the gaseous mixture and the sweep gas to a swept membrane stage to obtain a retentate stream and a mixed permeate stream, the mixed permeate stream comprising at least a portion of the condensable component and at least a portion of the noncondensable component; introducing the mixed permeate stream to a vapor-liquid separator and subjecting the mixed permeate stream to thermodynamic conditions sufficient to condense most of the condensable component into a liquid, and obtain a raw noncondensable component stream, wherein the raw noncondensable component stream is enriched in the noncondensable component; and introducing the raw noncondensable component to a concentration unit to obtain a noncondensable component product stream enriched in the noncondensable component.
Method Of Cooling Boil Off Gas And An Apparatus Therefor
A method of cooling a boil off gas stream from a liquefied cargo (50a) in a floating transportation vessel is described. The method comprises: compressing a boil off gas stream in two or more stages of compression to provide a compressed BOG discharge stream; cooling the compressed BOG discharge stream against one or more first coolant streams to provide a first cooled compressed BOG stream; cooling the first cooled compressed BOG stream against at least one second coolant stream to provide a second cooled compressed BOG stream; providing a vessel fuel stream from the liquefied cargo; using the vessel fuel stream as a coolant stream to cool either the compressed BOG discharge stream, or the first cooled compressed BOG stream, or both said streams.
APPARATUS TO DIRECTLY DETECT SOLIDS FORMATION
An apparatus to directly detect solids formation in a fluid under known pressure and temperature conditions is disclosed. The apparatus includes a vessel having an electromagnetic resonant cavity defined by an upper portion, a lower portion and a gap defined therebetween, the gap having resonant properties sensitive to the presence of a solid phase therein. The upper portion or the lower portion may be provided with a passage extending therethrough in fluid communication with an inlet to allow ingress of a stream of fluid to the gap and thereby purge solids from the cavity subsequent to solids formation.
The apparatus also includes one or more probes, one or more sensors and a signal processor operatively connected to said sensors and said one or more probes to directly detect solids formation in the fluid within the cavity in response to detected changes in the resonant properties of the cavity.
