11287183 · 2022-03-29 · ·

The present invention relates to an improved method for removing contaminants from a gaseous stream substantially comprising carbon dioxide. More specifically, the method comprises the step of subjecting the gaseous stream to an absorption step in which the absorbent is liquid carbon dioxide wherein the waste of carbon dioxide is minimized by utilizing a compressing means for generating a pressure difference between two streams in a reboiler.

STEAM METHANE REFORMING UNIT FOR CARBON CAPTURE
20210284530 · 2021-09-16 ·

A molten carbonate fuel cell-powered system for capturing carbon dioxide produced by a steam methane reformer system. Tail gas from a pressure swing adsorption system is mixed with exhaust gas from the fuel cell anode, then pressurized and cooled to extract liquefied carbon dioxide. The residual low-CO.sub.2 gas is directed to an anode gas oxidizer, to the anode, to the reformer to be burned for fuel, and/or to the pressure swing adsorption system. Low-CO.sub.2 flue gas from the reformer can be vented to the atmosphere or directed to the anode gas oxidizer. Reduction in the amount of CO.sub.2 reaching the fuel cell allows the fuel cell to be sized according to the power demands of the system and eliminates the need to export additional power output.

Method for separating components of a gas

A method is disclosed for separating components of a gas. A feed gas stream is cooled in the first vessel. The feed gas stream comprises methane, carbon dioxide, and a secondary component. A first portion of the secondary component condenses, desublimates, or a combination thereof to form a primary stream, resulting in a first depleted gas stream. The first depleted gas stream is cooled in a condensing exchanger such that a first portion of the methane condenses as a first liquid methane stream, resulting in a second depleted gas stream. The second depleted gas stream is cooled in the second vessel such that a first portion of the carbon dioxide desublimates to form a solid product stream, resulting in a third depleted gas stream.

Lights Removal From Carbon Dioxide

Light gases such as helium are extacted from a carbon dioxide-containing feed stream by distillation. Costly dehydration steps are avoided by pumping the liquid bottoms stream leaving the distillation column without vaporization so as to ensure that any water present in the feed remains in solution with the bulk stream leaving the process. This prevents any liquid phase water causing corrosion or solid ice or hydrates forming to plug the flow.

GAS SEPARATION SYSTEM WITH AUTO-REFRIGERATION AND SELECTIVE RECYCLE FOR CARBON DIOXIDE CAPTURE AND COMPRESSION

A system and method for capturing and separating carbon dioxide from mixed gas streams. The gas stream is processed in a structure including a compression module comprising a plurality of compressors, intercoolers and inter-stage condensate separators. The flow path from the compression module includes a plurality of flow separators, gas stream splitters, heat exchangers and at least a first mixer and a first expander. The gas stream is sequentially compressed and cooled to form process condensate and separate it from the compressed gas stream. The gas stream is further dried and cooled to liquefy carbon dioxide and separate it from the non-condensable portion. Selective expansion of liquid carbon dioxide streams provides cooling for the system, and further energy efficiency is achieved by selective recycling of portions of gas streams, allowing for compact equipment and economical operation, while providing for high purity product streams of carbon dioxide.
