The golf club heads further include a plurality of grooves disposed on the club face between the top rail and the sole. Each groove extends between a heel end and a toe end. Depths of the grooves vary in a direction extending between the top rail and the sole and in a direction extending between the heel end and the toe end. Widths of the grooves vary in a direction extending between the heel end and the toe end.

The protrusion includes a first recess extending from an upper surface of the protrusion toward a sole, a second recess positioned closer to a toe than the first recess is and extending from the upper surface of the protrusion toward the sole, and a thick portion provided between the first and second recesses in a toe-heel direction. The first and second recesses each has a substantially trapezoidal shape in a cross-sectional view taken along a plane that is parallel to a front face of the face portion and passes through a deepest part of each of the first and second recesses.

Set screws reside in threaded holes in the bar supports, the set screws operable to releasably lock the bar in a selected orientation relative to the body member, where the selected orientation of the bar corresponds to and determines the loft angle of the front face. The forward angle of the front face, the angles of the teeth, and loft angle of the face are jointly chosen to impart a pure rolling motion onto a struck golf ball.

CLUB HEADS HAVING REINFORCED CLUB HEAD FACES AND RELATED METHODS

Some embodiments include club heads having reinforced club head faces. In one example, the club head comprises a variable face thickness with thickened and thinned regions. The face includes a thinned perimeter region positioned near a perimeter of the face, and a thickened central region positioned over a geometric center of the face. The club head further comprises a 360 undercut that extends along the entire perimeter of the face. The combination of the thinned perimeter region, thickened central region, and 360 undercut reinforces the club head while permitting the face to bend. Other embodiments of related club heads and methods are also disclosed.
