Modular heat exchanger

A heat exchanger comprising a plurality of plates that are demountably attached to a frame is disclosed. Each plate comprises a plurality of channels for conveying a primary fluid through the heat exchanger. The frames are arranged in the frame so that spaces between adjacent frame pairs define conduits for conveying a secondary fluid through the heat exchanger. The plates are mounted in the frame so that they can be individually removed from the frame. Further, each of the channels is fluidically connected to input and output ports for the primary fluid by detachable couplings. As a result, heat exchangers in accordance with the present invention are more easily repaired or refurbished than prior-art heat exchangers.

A welded plate type air to liquid heat exchanger has a plurality of plates each with an internal volume inside a peripheral flange having a flange thickness. The plates are in parallel fluid communication with an inlet and outlet, and are mounted in a frame with a mutual predetermined distance, such that air flows therebetween. The plates are mounted between two plate holding frame members on opposite sides of the plates. The frame members have an exterior edge and slits in a comb-like shape extending from the exterior edge. First type and second type slits are provided in an alternating configuration. The first type are formed with a narrow entry passage section having a width corresponding to the flange thickness and a widened opening section therebehind. The first type receive the peripheral flanges of the plates in the narrow passage section. The second type are substantially straight and vacant.

Aerodynamically active stiffening feature for gas turbine recuperator

A recuperator disposed in the exhaust duct of a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of recuperator plates arranged in a spaced-apart relationship to define therebetween a plurality of interstices and fluid channels, the plurality of interstices adapted to direct therethrough at least one first stream received at a leading plate edge of the recuperator plates and the plurality of fluid channels adapted to direct therethrough at least one second stream to effect heat exchange between the at least one first stream and the at least one second stream. Each recuperator plate includes, formed at the leading plate edge thereof, a first concavity extending along the leading edge in a direction substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the plate. The first concavity extends transversely to a direction of the at least one first stream flowing over each recuperator plate.

Heat exchanger II

A heat exchanger comprises a stack of mutually spaced apart plates. The plates are separated by respective spacings therebetween. Alternate spacings respectively provide a flow path for a first fluid and a second fluid. The heat exchanger further comprises a first header for inflow of the first fluid and a second header for outflow of the first fluid. The first and second headers are connected to the plate stack by flexible tubular ducting means.
