Bolt mechanisms and firearms containing the same

A firearm includes a bolt mechanism with a bolt configured to receive a firing pin assembly and a bolt head assembly. The bolt head assembly includes a pivoting bolt head and an extractor. The extractor is positioned relative to the bolt such that substantially all forces applied by the extractor to the bolt mechanism are reacted within the bolt head assembly. A biasing member or element can urge a claw portion of extractor towards a distal end of the bolt head.

Low pressure bolt carrier group

The present low pressure bolt carrier group is configured to maximize the axial force component, and minimize the radial force component, applied to both the bolt carrier and the bolt under low-pressure gas conditions, so that the two separate with greater acceleration and under greater force than a standard bolt carrier group when firing low-pressure ammunition. Thus, the present low-pressure bolt carrier group effectively and completely ejects the spent case and chambers the next round. These and other benefits are provided by the present low-pressure bolt carrier group comprising one or more of an increased piston bore diameter, an increased piston diameter, an increased flatness of the piston surface in the radial plane, and an increased stroke length of the piston by lengthening the cam pin slot. Therefore, the present low-pressure bolt carrier group solves long-persisting problems with standard bolt carrier groups when using low-pressure rounds.

Biased pivoting cartridge extractor for blowback bolt firearms

A biased pivoting spent ammunition cartridge case extractor and retainer mechanism for blowback bolt firearms. The mechanism includes a distal arcuate hook shaped and dimensioned to intimately engage and nest into part of the circumferential groove in front of the cartridge rim. The hook remains engaged during blowback extraction of the casing from the chamber, and prior to ejection of the case from the firearm. The hook is formed onto the distal end of a rocking member secured to the bolt by a medial pivot. A compression spring bears against the opposite, proximal end of the rocking member thereby biasing the hook inwardly toward the counterbore seat on the distal end of the bolt into which the base of the case rests during extraction. A direct gas impingement system overcomes the biasing force of the spring to cause the case to be ejected.

Bolt carrier and bolt for gas operated firearms

An improved bolt and bolt carrier with integral gas key having an extension nozzle threadedly secured and pinned to the gas key for use with a direct gas operated firearm is provided. The extension nozzle is designed to receive a portion of the host firearms gas operating system. The firing pin retaining pin is oriented so as to expose its widest profile to the firing pins annular flange, increasing its service life. The bolt has a plurality of lugs extending from its forward end and an extractor recess. The extractor recess is constructed to accommodate an enlarged extractor claw while not undercutting the bolt lugs adjacent thereto. The extractor engages approximately 57% more of a seated ammunition cartridges rim as compared to some prior art AR15/M16 type extractors used with automatic firearms chambered in 6.8SPC. The result is an improved bolt and bolt carrier which provides for increased operational reliability.

Elements of the present invention relate to the application of force to a bolt carrier within a firearm when the firearm becomes inoperable. Some elements relate to the application of force by leverage applied with a bar inserted through a weapon's magazine well. Some elements relate to a bar end with prongs that provide for clearance of a weapon's bolt shaft while engaging the weapon's bolt carrier. Some elements relate to accommodation of multiple weapon dimensions with a single tool.
