WEAPON USAGE MONITORING SYSTEM HAVING PERFORMANCE METRICS INCLUDING STABILITY INDEX FEEDBACK BASED ON DISCHARGE EVENT DETECTION
A system and method for determining a performance metric based on a discharge event of a firearm includes a first inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a first event detection module. The first IMU is disposed on a first firearm and senses movement including at least one of accelerations and rotations. The first event detection module can receive a plurality of first input signals from the first IMU indicative of the movement. The first event detection module can identify an occurrence of a first shot discharge of the first firearm at a shot time based on the plurality of first input signals; determine a first orientation of the first firearm at the shot time; determine a second orientation of the first firearm at a first time before the shot time; compare the first and second orientations; and assign a first stability index based on the first and second orientations.

WEAPON USAGE MONITORING SYSTEM HAVING PERFORMANCE METRICS BASED ON DISCHARGE EVENT DETECTION
A method for determining a performance metric based on a discharge event of a firearm is provided. A plurality of first input signals over a sample window of time from a first inertial measurement unit (IMU) configured on the first firearm are received by a first event detection module associated with the first firearm of a first user. An occurrence of a first shot discharge of the first firearm at a first time based on the plurality of first input signals is identified by the first event detection module. An occurrence of a second shot discharge of the first firearm at a second time based on the plurality of first input signals is identified by the first event detection module. A first split time is determined for the first user based on a difference between the first and second times.
WEAPON USAGE MONITORING SYSTEM HAVING DISCHARGE EVENT MONITORING WITH DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
A system and method for determining a discharge event of a firearm is provided. An event detection module receives acceleration and rotation input signals from an inertial measurement unit configured on the firearm. Respective acceleration and rotation input signals are assigned to sample event candidates at respective windows of time. The acceleration signals of the sampled event candidates are compared to a discharge acceleration template that represents a confirmed weapon discharge event. A subset of accepted accelerations from the sampled event candidates are identified that satisfy the discharge acceleration template. A first rotation input signal from the sample window of time associated with each accepted acceleration in the subset is compared to a first rotation template that represents a confirmed weapon discharge event. A determination is made whether the sample event candidate is a discharge event based on satisfying both the discharge acceleration template and the first rotation template.
WEAPON USAGE MONITORING SYSTEM HAVING PERFORMANCE METRICS AND FEEDBACK RECOMMENDATIONS BASED ON DISCHARGE EVENT DETECTION
A system and method for recommending a corrective action based on a performance metric related to a discharge event of a firearm is provided. The method includes receiving, by a first event detection module associated with a first firearm, a plurality of first input signals over a sample window of time from a first inertial measurement unit configured on the first firearm; identifying, by the first event detection module, an occurrence of a first shot discharge of the first firearm at a shot time based on the plurality of first input signals; determining a first orientation of the first firearm at the shot time; determining a second orientation of the first firearm at a first time before the shot time; comparing the first and second orientations; determining a first performance metric related to pre-shot weapon orientation; and displaying a first recommended corrective action based on the first performance metric.
WEAPON USAGE MONITORING SYSTEM HAVING SHOT COUNT MONITORING AND SAFETY SELECTOR SWITCH
A method providing discharge monitoring of a firearm includes a signal processing module and a safety selector switch sensor. The event detection module has at least one sensor that senses an acceleration and generates an acceleration signal. The signal processing module receives the acceleration signal and is configured to determine whether the acceleration signal is a discharge event and generate an event detection signal based on the determination, the signal processing module further configured to maintain a shot count of the firearm based on the determination that the event detection signal is a discharge event. The safety selector switch sensor communicates with a safety switch configured on the firearm, and communicates a safety switch signal to the signal processing module corresponding to a position of the safety switch. The event detection signal is further based on the safety switch signal.
WEAPON USAGE MONITORING SYSTEM HAVING SHOT COUNT MONITORING AND TRIGGER PULL SENSOR
A system for providing discharge monitoring of a firearm includes an event detection module, a signal processing module and a trigger pull sensor assembly. The event detection module has at least one sensor that senses an acceleration and generates an acceleration signal. The signal processing module receives the acceleration signal. The signal processing module is configured to determine whether the acceleration signal is a discharge event and generate an event detection signal based on the determination and is configured to maintain a shot count of the firearm based on the determination that the event detection signal is a discharge event. The trigger pull sensor assembly senses mechanical movement of a trigger of the firearm and communicates a trigger actuation signal to the signal processing module corresponding to a position of the trigger. The event detection signal is further based on the trigger actuation signal.
