Personal Defense Device
A personal defense device for projecting a lachrymator agent includes an L-shaped housing, which defines a barrel and a grip. A valve is positioned in the barrel proximate to the grip, which extends from a first end of the barrel. A channel extends from the valve to a second end of the barrel. A cavity extends into the grip and is in fluidic communication with the valve. The grip selectively engages a cannister, which contains a lachrymator agent, that is inserted into the cavity. The cannister is removably engaged to the L-shaped housing and an outlet of the cannister is operationally engaged to the valve. A trigger is engaged to the L-shaped housing and operationally engaged to the valve can be triggered to actuate the valve. The lachrymator agent is dispensed from the cannister through the channel toward a target that is in substantial alignment with the barrel.

Incapacitating Chemical Agent Dispersal Using a Portable Electronic Device
A portable electronic device that selectively deploys a liquid incapacitating chemical agent is described. During operation, the portable electronic device receives or provides a trigger signal. For example, the portable electronic device may include a trigger (such as a mechanical or an electronic trigger), and the portable electronic device may provide the trigger signal when the trigger is activated. Alternatively or additionally, the portable electronic device may provide the trigger signal when an individual is detected in proximity or may receive the trigger signal via wireless communication. In response to the trigger signal, a control circuit provides a control signal to a pump. Then, based at least in part on the control signal, the pump transfers the liquid incapacitating chemical agent from a reservoir to a nozzle. Next, the nozzle discharges the liquid incapacitating chemical agent, e.g., in a stream, where the stream is external to the portable electronic device.

Rapid response self-defense system and method
A personal defense device arranged to self-orient and enable accurate aim when gripped by a user is provided. The device has a body including upper and lower regions. The upper region includes a transverse index finger loop, a front portion, a rear portion with a storage cavity for a repellant spray container, a spray opening through the upper region, a thumb support, and a top surface. The top surface is above and perpendicular to the transverse loop, which forms an extended sightline for aiming at a potential target. The lower region includes a grip handle providing multi-finger grip below the index finger transverse loop. The transverse loop, multi-finger grip handle and thumb support self-orient the device in the user's hand, and the top surface sightline enables rapid aiming. The upper region front portion can include a contact feature for defensive contact with an attacker and DNA collection.
