20230384070 · 2023-11-30 ·

A firearm ammunition component comprising a projectile body having a circular cross-section and a central channel on a forward face, a nose portion forward of the projectile body, and a gas check member rearward of the projectile body. The nose includes a curved forward end, a rear end opposite the forward end, and a stabilizing element/band between the forward and rear ends extending radially outwards from at least a portion of the nose. A shank extends from the nose rear end and within the body central channel. The gas check member includes a rearward annular wall portion forming a combustion chamber. The firearm ammunition component is adapted so only the stabilizing element/band contacts the firearm bore, ensuring loading central the bore.

A .22 caliber rimfire cartridge includes a generally cylindrical casing having a rearward rimfire end and an opposing mouth end, wherein the rearward rimfire end has an annular rim connecting to a cylindrical casing portion extending to a casing forward edge and a bullet is disposed in the forward mouth end. In embodiments, the bullet comprises copper and a polymer binder. In embodiments, the bullet has a forward tapering portion with a central cavity, a first cylindrical portion with a first diameter and a cylindrical surface directly rearward of the tapering portion, a cylindrical driving band directly rearward of the first cylindrical portion, the cylindrical driving band having a second diameter greater than the first diameter and having an outer second cylindrical surface, a third cylindrical portion directly rearward of the cylindrical driving band, the third cylindrical portion having a third cylindrical surface with a diameter equal to the first diameter. In embodiments, the bullet is positioned with the third cylindrical surface mostly or entirely within the casing. In embodiments, the casing has a circumferential crimp positioned at the third circumferential portion. In embodiments, the third circumferential surface having a circumferential indentation at the circumferential crimp.

Polymer projectile having an integrated driving band

A lightweight projectile having an integrated metal band positioned around the exterior of the polymer base of the projectile. The metal band may be a driving band that protrudes from the polymer base to minimize the contact between the polymer base and the rifling to reduce friction between the barrel and the projectile as the projectile is fired. The lightweight projectile may be propelled with less propellant force than conventional projectiles of the same caliber while still retaining the ballistic advantages of a spin stabilized projectile.

Reduced drag projectiles

A cartridge comprising an elongate rifle bullet with a plurality of circumferential grooves having overmolded polymer therein defining embedded polymer rings. The cartridge further having a case and propellant. The polymer rings have an outer surface that is flush with, that is, conforming to the outer surface of the body. The polymer may have be selected to have a favorable coefficient of friction with respect to the barrel. The bands offering reduction of the metal to metal contact between the bullet and the barrel while not diminishing the ballistic coefficient of the bullet.

Modular test vehicle

A modular constructed, standardized test device for simulating a spin stabilized projectile which is fired from a barrel having rifling grooves, comprised of the bolted together, keyed to transfer spin, modular components of replaceable rotating band, replaceable front end and back end, and filler sections for further simulation of other components. The front end has an interior recessed area which allows for a selective integration of a threaded fuze or an aerodynamic, electronic, or other structure and the rear end has a crimp groove for selective attachment of a cartridge case, and aerodynamic or other structure to mimic the rear geometry of a projectile for testing purposes.

Enhanced polymer marking projectile for nonlethal cartridge

Nonlethal cartridges adapted to be chambered in a firearm having a barrel that includes rifling are provided. In one example, the cartridge includes a cartridge case and a sabot that is telescopically coupled to the cartridge case and that has a sabot mouth. A projectile includes a polymer base projectile portion disposed in the sabot mouth. A polymer front shell projectile portion is coupled to the polymer base projectile portion and has an outer surface that includes a circular locking rib feature that forms an interference fit with the sabot mouth. The polymer base projectile portion is configured to engage the rifling of the barrel to impart spin stabilization to the nonlethal projectile when propelled from the sabot in response to the expansion of a propellant gas.
