20170261296 · 2017-09-14 ·

The present invention provides a method of making a two piece primer insert comprising: an upper primer insert portion comprising an upper primer bottom surface, an upper primer aperture through the upper primer bottom surface; a substantially cylindrical coupling element extending away from the upper primer bottom surface, and an interior surface; a lower primer insert portion comprising a lower primer bottom surface opposite a lower primer top surface having a primer recess, a lower primer aperture through the lower primer bottom surface, and a flange adapted to receive a polymer overmolding that extends circumferentially about an outer edge of the lower primer top surface; and an insert joint that links and aligns the upper primer bottom surface and the lower primer bottom surface to form a primer insert.

Press load process for warheads

An improved process provides high-density pre-form billets that meet dimensional limitations required for case-load tooling. Previous isostatic fill procedures were improved in two ways to accommodate varying bulk densities or powder compositions. First, during the isostatic fill procedure, the powder fill is subject to both a high frequency vibration and a high amplitude, low frequency impulse. The combination of these two inputs is critical to ensure polymer bonded explosives pack to consistent densities. Second, unlike in conventional practices, the fill rate is kept constant throughout the entire fill process and the mold is completely filled by the time the required powder mass has been dispensed.

An automatic ammunition reloading system includes an actuation assembly in communication with a control system. The actuation assembly is joined to a reloading press by attaching to a control segment of the ammunition press so as to put the reloading press in operative relation with the actuation assembly. The control system receives input from one or more press position sensors to determine an actuation distance of the control lever for a full stroke of the reloading press. The control system controls operation of the actuation assembly so as to power the reloading press.

A method of encapsulating content with calcium alginate membrane to form a capsule. The method includes embedding sodium alginate into a traditional gelatin ribbon used in gelatin encapsulation, adding calcium to a fill material, encapsulating the fill material, and then denaturing the gelatin in the shell. An exemplary use of this method is to form throwable paintballs; however, other products could be formed using this process. A paintball formed by this process is also disclosed.
