Non-Lethal Projectile Construction and Launcher
20210095941 · 2021-04-01 · ·

A nonlethal projectile includes a payload for immobilizing and/or identifying a target. The projectile is capable of separating or otherwise opening after launch by a launcher to release the payload prior to impact with a target. The launcher is capable of initiating separation of the projectile. Opening may also be accomplished by a control circuit with a radio-frequency identification (RFID), where an RFID tag in the projectile causes the projectile to open at a specified distance from the launcher. The launcher may include a trigger and/or a safety switch to prevent the projectile from becoming armed until a certain parameter is met. A magazine or breech assembly of the launcher may energize the projectile prior to launch of the projectile.

AERIAL RECONNAISSANCE MARKING PROJECTILE

An aerial projectile apparatus provides a means for marking terrestrial and marine locations for identification from afar, as by aerial reconnaissance. The projectile is launched from ground level at a location where identification is desired. When the projectile is lofted to an appropriate elevation, it disperses a spray of marker substance in the form of droplets or solid particles. When the sprayed marker substance settles to ground level, it leaves a mark on the landscape or marine surface indicating the location for identification by aerial reconnaissance.

Hand-settable net munition time fuze

A hand settable fuze interfaces with a servomotor to deploy a net from a projectile in flight. Prior to launch, a dial is rotated to both power on the fuze and set a preset delay. The projectile is then launched from a launcher system to deliver the stowed net rapidly and accurately toward a target. After the preset delay, the net is deployed from the projectile toward the target by operation of the servomotor.

Proximity fuse having an E-field sensor

A proximity fuse includes an electric-field (E-field) sensor to detect electrical disturbances from an object that is external and distinct from a device carrying the proximity fuse. The E-field sensor detects or senses E-fields versus time in order to provide omnidirectional coverage of the device carrying the proximity fuse. When the device carrying the fuse is a missile having warhead, the proximity fuse is connected with detonation logic that detonates the warhead at a desired time to destroy or neutralize the object, which is typically a threat, such as another missile.

Detonator

A detonator for use in a detonating system, which detonator includes discriminating and validating arrangements which sense and validate at least one characteristic of at least one parameter produced by at least one of a light, acoustic, vibratory, magnetic or electrical signal event, and an electronic timer which executes a timing interval in response thereto.

Muzzle velocity correction

A fuze for an airburst munition determines a corrected muzzle velocity via an on board acceleration sensor and processor and corrects an airburst time, accordingly. Velocity calculations are made in real time which allows for timely update of airburst time thereby preventing error stack up due to muzzle velocity variations.

Disclosed is a method for firing an electronic detonator including a power storage unit including receiving, via the electronic detonator, a firing order. The following steps are implemented as long as the delay time associated with the electronic detonator has not elapsed since the reception of the firing order: measuring power stored in the power storage unit, and firing the electronic detonator when the measured stored power is less than or equal to a predetermined power.
