A bicycle trainer is adapted to be arranged with a bicycle to simulate riding a bicycle on an outdoor road. The bicycle includes a stand, a roller and a resistance source. The stand is adapted to support the bicycle. The roller is pivoted to the stand and adapted to contact a bicycle wheel of the bicycle. The resistance source is coupled to the roller and provides resistance to the bicycle wheel via the roller. The resistance source varies the magnitude of the provided resistance according to the rotation speed of the roller.

A direct-drive bicycle training system and methods of using the same are provided. The system includes a bicycle trainer that rests on a support surface and supports a bicycle frame in an upright manner with respect to the support surface. The bicycle trainer includes a stator, a rotor that rotates with respect to the stator, a cassette affixed to the rotor, a support frame supporting the stator, rotor, and cassette, and a resistance applying mechanism that operatively couples to a portion of a drivetrain of the bicycle frame and applies varying levels of resistance to the portion of the drivetrain. A guide apparatus comprising a connection mechanism that is pivotally supported at an elevation vertically above the frame cooperates with a rear hub of the bicycle and allows for lateral movement of the rear wheel in axial directions along the rear rollers during rotation of the rear wheel of the bicycle, but limits an extent of the lateral movement to maintain the rear wheel between terminal lateral ends of the rear rollers.

An exercise assembly for physical therapy and rehabilitation includes a bicycle and a treadmill. The bicycle has a pair of front forks. The treadmill has a belt that is configured to rotate. A coupler is coupled to the treadmill. The coupler is configured to couple to the front forks. The coupler is positioned to reversibly couple to the front forks to couple the bicycle to the treadmill such that a rear wheel of the bicycle is positioned on the belt. The belt is positioned to rotate the rear wheel such that rotary motion is transferred through a pair of pedals of the bicycle to legs of a user who is positioned on the bicycle.
