20170130647 · 2017-05-11 ·

A device for internal cooling and pressurization of rotary engine, comprising: a mechanical charger, a charger outlet tube, a core cooling intake tube, an engine air intake tube, a first valve, a second valve, and a third valve. The mechanical charger is mounted in a ventilated place. The charger outlet tube is used to dispense air, and the charger outlet tube has two sides, with one side coupled to the mechanical charger. The core cooling intake tube is connected to another side of the charger outlet tube, and is used to dispense air. The engine air intake tube is connected to another side of the charger outlet tube. The device for cooling and pressurization of rotary engine is capable of achieving improved cooling and performance of rotary engine, through switching a plurality of valves, in automatic control manner and/or in remote control manner.

Hybrid cycle rotary engine

An internal combustion engine includes in one aspect a source of a pressurized working medium and an expander. The expander has a housing and a piston, movably mounted within and with respect to the housing, to perform one of rotation and reciprocation, each complete rotation or reciprocation defining at least a part of a cycle of the engine. The expander also includes a septum, mounted within the housing and movable with respect to the housing and the piston so as to define in conjunction therewith, over first and second angular ranges of the cycle, a working chamber that is isolated from an intake port and an exhaust port. Combustion occurs at least over the first angular range of the cycle to provide heat to the working medium and so as to increase its pressure. The working chamber over a second angular range of the cycle expands in volume while the piston receives, from the working medium as a result of its increased pressure, a force relative to the housing that causes motion of the piston relative to the housing.

COMPOUND CYCLE ENGINE

A compound cycle engine having a rotary internal combustion engine, a first turbine, and a second turbine is discussed. The exhaust port of the internal combustion engine is in fluid communication with the flowpath of the first turbine upstream of its rotor. The rotors of the first turbine and of each rotary unit drive a common load. The inlet of the second turbine is in fluid communication with the flowpath of the first turbine downstream of its rotor. The first turbine is configured as a velocity turbine and the first turbine has a pressure ratio smaller than that of the second turbine. A method of compounding a rotary engine is also discussed.

Expander for recovery of thermal energy from a fluid

A bladed expander for recovery of thermal energy from a working fluid, comprising a stator provided with an inlet port and an outlet port for the working fluid, a rotor housed within the stator, and a plurality of blades set between the rotor and the stator so as to delimit between them a plurality of compartments with variable volume that increases between the inlet port and the outlet port. The stator and the rotor are subjected to a heat exchange with a hot fluid so as to carry out a transformation of expansion during which the working fluid receives thermal energy from outside.
