An internal combustion engine is provided using parts that can be produced simply and inexpensively, in which internal combustion engine the fuel is burned optimally by adjustments of compression ratio and valve control times and thus the least possible harmful exhaust gases are emitted while maximum effective power is achieved. Furthermore, all liquid and gaseous fuels can be used.

A switching device for a pneumatic tool includes a valve member, a connecting member and an operating unit. The valve member is rotatable relative to the pneumatic tool between first and second positions. The connecting member is coupled to the valve member in a manner such that the connecting member drives the rotation of the valve member and that an assembly of the valve member and the connecting member is flexible, so as to establish an air-tight seal between the valve member and a pneumatic motor of the pneumatic tool. The operating unit is mounted on the pneumatic tool and coupled co-rotatably to the connecting member.

Combustion engine having a rotor, a housing and at least two combustion chambers which are formed between the rotor and the housing, wherein the housing has at least one ignition recess on the side thereof which faces the rotor, into which ignition recess a fuel feed and ignition system opens. At least one valve device which is mounted rotatably in the housing is configured for dividing the combustion chambers at least temporarily into an ignition chamber and a compression chamber. The valve device has at least one rotor passage section, at least one closing section and at least one gas passage section. Alternatively, the valve device temporarily at the same time disconnects a compression chamber from a first combustion chamber and an ignition chamber from a second combustion chamber, wherein there is a fluidic connection during this time between the ignition chamber and the compression chamber.

The invention is a rotary engine comprised of at least one and usually a plurality of independent partial engines. Two different processes can be carried out in each independent partial engine both of which are used to operate the engines. The processes of the invention are basically two different and separate closed cycle processes that can both operate within the same geometric confinement, i.e. the same expansion chamber or expansion chambers, at the same time. The primary process performs the main function of converting heat to kinetic energy and is necessary in all engines of the invention. It is a unique process that uses the expansion of gases and also the contraction of the condensing gases after their expansion. The secondary process is needed for start-up and to provide additional power in case the engine might go into a stall. In most engines of the invention both processes are needed to operate the engine.
