In-situ heating/cooling tool for turbine assembly on a shaft
A method of assembling a first part to a second part while applying thermal energy to at least one of the parts. The application of thermal energy is terminated when the first part and second part are in a completed assembly position relative to each other. The thermal energy absorbed by the at least one of: the first part; and the second part is then dissipated until the first part and second part are engaged in an interference fit.
AIR STARTER WITH OFFSET INTERFACE
An air starter for an engine, such as a turbine engine, that includes a turbine for rotatably extracting mechanical power from a flow of fluid. The turbine includes a drive shaft that can be coupled to an output shaft to provide a rotational output. The interface between the drive shaft and the output shaft can be offset.
SAFETY APPARATUS
A safety apparatus for containing a release of energy from a tension stud of a rotor assembly, the safety apparatus includes an elongate member defining a longitudinal axis and at least two arms projecting away from the longitudinal axis of the elongate member. In use, in a first orientation, the elongate member is configured to be connected to a tool apparatus for applying a load energy to the tension stud and the at least two arms of the safety apparatus are configured to overlap with at least part of the tool apparatus in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the elongate member to contain the release of energy therebetween.
FASTENER ARRANGEMENT FOR ROTATING GROUP OF TURBOMACHINE
A turbomachine includes a housing and a rotating group that is supported for rotation about an axis within the housing. The rotating group includes a rotor shaft, a wheel, and a fastener that clamps the wheel to the rotor shaft. The fastener is unitary and includes a head and a shank. The shank includes a piloting feature on an arcuate surface that faces radially outward with respect to the axis. The shank is received in the wheel and is attached to the rotor shaft with the piloting feature being piloted to an arcuate inner radial surface of the wheel. The head abuts an axial surface of the wheel for axially clamping the wheel to the rotor shaft.
Method for repairing a rotor of a multi-stage axial compressor of a gas turbine
The method comprises the steps of: a) cutting the shaft of the rotor at a section plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the shaft so as to separate the end portion of the shaft on which the bladed discs to be replaced are mounted from the remaining portion of the shaft; b) providing, for each bladed disc to be replaced, a corresponding new bladed disc with a respective hub having a solid cross-section; c) providing a new end portion of the shaft with a solid cross-section; and d) clamping the new bladed discs between the remaining portion of the shaft and the new end portion of the shaft, securing them to the remaining portion of the shaft by anchor bolts.
Thermally isolated rotor systems and methods
A rotor assembly of a gas-turbine engine may comprise a first rotor blade, a second rotor blade, a third rotor blade, a first platform sealing assembly and a second platform sealing assembly. The first platform sealing assembly may be disposed between a first platform of the first rotor blade and a second platform of the second rotor blade. The second platform sealing assembly may be disposed between the second platform and a third platform of the third rotor blade.
Gas turbine engine shaft with lobed support structure
An apparatus for a gas turbine engine includes a shaft base, a flange and a plurality of lobes. The shaft base extends axially along an axis between a shaft first end and a shaft second end. The flange is connected to the shaft base at the shaft first end. The flange projects radially out from the shaft base. The flange includes a plurality of fastener apertures, and the fastener apertures include a first fastener aperture. The lobes are arranged circumferentially about the axis. Each of the lobes is connected to and projects radially away from the shaft base. Each of the lobes is connected to and projects axially out from the flange. The lobes include a first lobe and a second lobe. The first fastener aperture is arranged circumferentially between the first lobe and the second lobe. The second lobe radially overlaps the first fastener aperture.
TREATMENT PROCESS FOR A CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR WHEEL TO EXTEND LOW-CYCLE FATIGUE LIFE
A process for treating a centrifugal compressor wheel includes a combination of cold expansion of at least part of the bore of the wheel to induce residual compressive stresses in a region around the bore, and surface peening at least parts of the compressor wheel such as the back disk and portions of the blades.
TURBOMACHINE WITH A SHAFT COUPLED TO AN IMPELLER WITH AN AXIALLY INTERPOSED FRICTION RING
A turbomachine includes a shaft with a first end and an impeller arranged at and coupled to the first end of the shaft, arranged together to rotate about an axis of rotation. The turbomachine further includes a friction ring clamped between an axial surface at the first end of the shaft and an opposite axial surface of the impeller.
Interference fit control for the assembly of rotary parts
A rotary assembly for an aircraft engine is disclosed. A shaft is mounted for rotation about a central axis and a rotary part is mounted on the shaft for common rotation therewith. The rotary part has an axial end portion extending away from a center of mass of the rotary part, the axial end portion having a radial thickness smaller than that of the rotary part at an axial location aligned with the center of mass. The shaft and the rotary part have an interface defining an interference fit between the shaft and the axial end portion of the rotary part. The interface is located at a distance along the central axis from the center of mass. An undercut is defined in the rotary part. The undercut extends axially from adjacent the interface towards the center of mass.
