TURBOFAN BLADE BLOCKING APPARATUS
Turbofan blade blocking apparatus are disclosed. An example turbofan engine includes a containment casing, a fan, at least one of a trench filler or an abradable layer at least partially aligned with the fan in an axial direction defined by the turbofan engine, at least one of the trench filler or the abradable layer fixed to an inner radial surface of the containment casing, and a metal blocker coupled to the containment casing forward of the fan, an aft end of the metal blocker interfacing with at least one of the trench filler or the abradable layer.
COMPRESSOR HOUSING
Disclosed is a compressor housing and method of assembling. The compressor housing may comprise an outer volute, a cavity, an impeller cover, a compressor diffuser and an inner volute. The outer volute includes a back wall and a curved casing. The back wall may include a receptacle and a first plurality of annular steps. The receptacle configured to receive an alignment pin. The cavity is configured to receive the compressor impeller and is at least partially defined by the back wall of the outer volute and the impeller cover. The impeller cover is configured to fragment during impact with the compressor impeller during a failure condition of the compressor impeller. The impeller cover is disposed between the inner volute and the cavity. The compressor diffuser is disposed between the back wall and the impeller cover.
Systems and methods for selectively disconnecting embedded electrical machines in gas turbine engines
A gas turbine engine includes an electrical machine positioned at least partially inward of a core airflow path, the electrical machine including an electrical rotor component and an electrical stator component, a connecting member positioned between the electrical machine and a rotary member, a disconnection device that is positionable between a disengaged position, in which the disconnection device is disengaged from the connecting member, and an engaged position, in which the disconnection device is engaged with the connecting member, and a controller including a processor, where the processor receives a signal from the electrical machine indicative of a fault, and in response to receiving the signal from the electrical machine indicative of the fault, directs the disconnection device to move from the disengaged position to the engaged position.
