A method of providing a rocker arm set for a valvetrain includes providing a first intake rocker arm, a second intake rocker arm and a first exhaust rocker arm. The first intake rocker arm is configured as a switching rocker arm for a first intake valve on a first cylinder. The second intake rocker arm is for a second intake valve on a second cylinder. The second rocker arm is configured to operate in a normal Otto cycle mode. The first exhaust rocker arm is provided for a first exhaust valve on the second cylinder. The first intake rocker arm operates in one of an LIVC or EIVC mode where the first intake rocker arm is configured to open or close at a different time compared to the second intake valve. The first exhaust rocker arm operates in a cylinder deactivation mode.

LOST MOTION VARIABLE VALVE ACTUATION SYSTEMS AND METHOD

A compact, modular, lost motion variable valve actuation assembly includes a dry start hydraulic circuit to enable quick priming of a lost motion master-slave circuit from a dry start reservoir to the master piston chamber during engine start. Motion of the master piston on engine startup may draw in fluid from the dry start hydraulic circuit. The dry start components may be integrated into a compact modular rocker shaft pedestal package suitable for retrofit on existing engine head assemblies. The master piston may include a push tube interface that includes a deep push tube cavity and lubrication capabilities in the master piston that provides for improved wear, stability, easy installation and alignment. The slave piston may be provided with a valve catch to reduce valve closing velocity during cycles involving lost-motion.

Each rotating member may include a ring gear having a valve port or aperture near its perimeter that cyclically aligns with a corresponding valve port formed through the cylinder wall near the top of the cylinder. A method of controlling valve timing comprises the steps of causing the rotating member containing the second valve port to periodically align in synchronism with the first port to control the passage of an air/fuel mixture and exhaust gases through the combustion cycles of the engine.

A valve system/method suitable for an internal combustion engine (ICE), compressor pump, vacuum pump, and/or reciprocating mechanical device is disclosed. The system/method is optimized for construction of a two-stroke ICE. The rudimentary system incorporates an intake engine block cover (IEC) and exhaust engine block cover (EEC) that enclose an intake rotary valve disc (IVD) and exhaust rotary valve disc (EVD) that control intake/exhaust flow through a respective intake rotary valve port (IVP) and an exhaust rotary valve port (EVP) into and out of a combustion cylinder that provides power to a piston and crankshaft. An intake multi-staged valve (IMV) and exhaust multi-staged valve (EMV) provide intake and exhaust flow control for the IVD/IVP and EVD/EVP. An enhanced system may include a variety of intake/exhaust port seals (IPS/EPS), forced induction/discharge (FIN), centrifugal advance (CAD), and/or cooling channel spool (ICS/ECS).

A tilting lever is pivotable between a first starting position and a first actuation position and a valve bridge is movable between a second starting position and a second actuation position. A coupling device is switchable between a locking state, in which the valve bridge is movable out of the second starting position into the second actuation position via the coupling device by the tilting lever, and an unlocking state, in which, despite a movement of the tilting lever out of the first starting position into the first actuation position, there is no movement of the valve bridge out of the second starting position into the second actuation position. The coupling device is held on the tilting lever such that the coupling device is pivotable with the tilting lever.
