A valve train for the variable actuation of an inlet valve and an outlet valve of a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, having a first operative connection between a valve actuating device and the inlet valve and a second operative connection between the valve actuating device and the outlet valve. The first operative connection and the second operative connection are assigned an interrupting element which is set up to temporarily interrupt the operative connections. The first operative connection and the second operative connection are connected to the same interrupting element in such a way that the first operative connection and the second operative connection can be interrupted temporarily by way of the interrupting element.

TWO-PIECE BLOCK FOR VARIABLE VALVE TRAIN SYSTEM

These components include at least one valve, a rocker arm, a brake, and a pump configured to receive input from a camshaft. The components are positioned with respect to the blocks such that the first block receives a first portion of the pump and the second block receives a second portion of the pump.

A camless valve control system for an internal combustion engine, includes a hydraulic pump, with a rotating shaft timed to the operation of the engine and a hydraulic actuator configured to selectively open and close one of an intake valve and an exhaust valve of the engine. The hydraulic actuator includes a rotating cylindrical pump body and one or more control rings with holes channeling the flow of the hydraulic control fluid to affect the selective opening and closing of the one of the intake value and the exhaust valve. The pump body includes a cylindrical center portion configured to receive torque from the hydraulic pump and at least one channel providing a flow of hydraulic control fluid from the pump.

Hydraulic Early Engine Exhaust Valve Opening System

An early exhaust valve opening (EEVO) module increases a no-load engine speed so an engine can smoothly transition to driving a load when necessary. The EEVO module includes a drive piston engaging an injector rocker and a driven piston engaging an exhaust rocker. The pistons are fluidly connected by a activation fluid passage so that the drive piston compresses air in the passage when an injector cam rotates the injector rocker and causes movement of the driven gear and the exhaust rocker to open an exhaust valve to release exhaust energy during a piston expansion stroke to limit the energy transferred to a crankshaft. A low pressure timing valve may drain pressurized fluid from the passage during an initial portion of the movement of the drive piston so driven piston does not move to open the exhaust valve until a desired amount of energy has been transferred to the crankshaft.

MULTI-PIECE VALVE TRAIN BLOCK WITH INTEGRATED CAMSHAFT SUPPORT

A variable valve train module for an engine includes a camshaft including at least one cam and a valve control block. The valve control block is positioned on a cylinder head of the engine. The valve control block includes a first sidewall and a second sidewall and houses valve train components configured to control the timing of at least one valve in the cylinder heads between the first and second sidewalls. The valve control block includes a support block forming the first sidewall and a plurality of integral bearing supports extending inwardly from the first sidewall and supporting the camshaft. The valve control block also includes a reinforcing block forming the second sidewall and which is attached to the support block.

Internal-combustion engine with an electronically controlled hydraulic system for variable actuation of the intake valves, provided with a device for refilling the system with fluid

In an engine having an electronically controlled hydraulic system for variable actuation of intake valves, an operating step of refilling, prior to ignition of the engine, is activated to refill a pressure chamber of the system with fluid when, after prolonged engine inactivity, the chamber has been emptied. In this refilling step, fuel supply to the engine is inhibited, and a camshaft is rotationally driven following upon activation of an engine-starting electrical machine. In this way, a pumping member associated to a tappet for actuating an intake valve is used as a pump for drawing fluid into the pressure chamber from an auxiliary fluid tank. During this step, a control valve is opened and closed in synchronism with movement of the pumping member so as to be open when the pumping member advances towards the pressure chamber and closed when the pumping member moves away from the pressure chamber.
