Variable valve actuation
The present invention provides for Variable Valve Actuation comprising a cam, a valve suitable to displace between a closed position and an open condition caused by said cam, and further comprising a main rocker arm suitable to swing over a fulcrum, mechanically interacting with said valve, by means of a guide profile, and wherein said cam interacts with said main rocker arm causing said valve displacement as a consequence of said main rocker arm swinging. The target is to prevent a valve brake due to the guide profile and enable higher system stiffness. Accumulator less designs are feasible with this system.
Valve actuation device for actuating at least two gas exchange valves of an internal combustion engine, method for operating such a valve actuation device and internal combustion engine
A valve actuation device for actuating a first and second gas exchange valve of an internal combustion engine. A tilting lever is pivotable between a first starting position and a first actuation position and a valve bridge is movable between a second starting position and a second actuation position. A coupling device is switchable between a locking state, in which the valve bridge is movable out of the second starting position into the second actuation position via the coupling device by the tilting lever, and an unlocking state, in which, despite a movement of the tilting lever out of the first starting position into the first actuation position, there is no movement of the valve bridge out of the second starting position into the second actuation position. The coupling device is held on the tilting lever such that the coupling device is pivotable with the tilting lever.
VALVE TRAIN ASSEMBLY
A type II valve train assembly that selectively opens first and second intake valves and first and second exhaust valves is provided. The valve train assembly includes an intake rocker arm assembly and an exhaust rocker arm assembly. The valve train assembly is configurable for operation in any combination of activated and deactivated states of engine braking and cylinder deactivation. The exhaust rocker arm assembly includes a first exhaust rocker arm, a second exhaust rocker arm and an engine brake exhaust rocker arm. A first exhaust HLA is associated with the first exhaust rocker arm. A second exhaust HLA is associated with the second exhaust valve. An exhaust actuation assembly selectively actuates to alter travel of the first and second exhaust HLA's to change a state of cylinder deactivation between activated and deactivated.
A METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A POWERTRAIN SYSTEM DURING UPSHIFTING
The invention relates to a method (100) for controlling a powertrain system (10) of a vehicle (1) during gear upshifting, said powertrain system comprising: an internal combustion engine system (11) comprising an internal combustion engine (12) configured to output a rotational speed (W1) via an engine output shaft (8); a transmission arrangement (14) having a number of gear stages to obtain a set of gears, the transmission arrangement being operatively connected to the internal combustion engine via a transmission input shaft (64) and further having a transmission output shaft (24) for providing a rotational speed to one or more drive wheels (26) of the vehicle; the method comprising the steps of: operating (110) the engine in a four-stroke operation to provide engine rotational speed output via the engine output shaft; receiving (120) an indication of an intended upshifting from a gear of the set of gears to a higher gear of the sets of gears; reducing (130) the rotational speed of the engine output shaft by adjusting the operation of the engine from the four-stroke operation to a two-stroke braking operation; and, when said engine is in the two-stroke braking operation, performing (140) the intended upshifting from said gear of the set of gears to said higher gear of the sets of gears.
Lost motion variable valve actuation systems and methods
A compact, modular, lost motion variable valve actuation assembly includes a dry start hydraulic circuit to enable quick priming of a lost motion master-slave circuit from a dry start reservoir to the master piston chamber during engine start. Motion of the master piston on engine startup may draw in fluid from the dry start hydraulic circuit. The dry start components may be integrated into a compact modular rocker shaft pedestal package suitable for retrofit on existing engine head assemblies. The master piston may include a push tube interface that includes a deep push tube cavity and lubrication capabilities in the master piston that provides for improved wear, stability, easy installation and alignment. The slave piston may be provided with a valve catch to reduce valve closing velocity during cycles involving lost-motion.
System and method for maintaining a temperature of an emission device
Methods and systems for maintaining a temperature of catalyst above a threshold temperature during vehicle braking and coasting is described. In one example, engine pumping work may be increased without increasing flow of cool fresh air through the engine's exhaust system to provide a desired level of engine braking. The net air flow through the engine may be reduced via activating a decompression actuator.
Rocker arm assembly for engine braking
An exhaust valve rocker arm assembly operable in a combustion engine mode and an engine braking mode can include a rocker shaft and a rocker arm. The rocker shaft can define a pressurized oil supply conduit. The rocker arm can receive the rocker shaft and is configured to rotate around the rocker shaft. The rocker arm can have an oil supply passage defined therein. A valve bridge can engage a first exhaust valve and a second exhaust valve. A hydraulic lash adjuster assembly can include first and second plunger bodies, the first plunger body can engage the valve bridge.
Type II valvetrain and hydraulic engine brake arrangement
A Type II valvetrain and engine brake arrangement includes a brake housing defining a hydraulic circuit and a follower piston chamber and a brake piston chamber. A follower piston in the follower piston chamber is configured to follow a rotating brake cam lobe. A brake piston in the brake piston chamber is in pressure responsive relation with the follower piston to move. A finger follower is disposed so that a brake rod coupled to the brake piston engages the finger follower at least when the brake piston is in an activated position. When the brake piston is the activated position, the finger follower pivots from a first end about a pivot as the finger follower follows a valve cam lobe to effect lifting and seating of a cylinder valve. When the brake piston is activated, the finger follower, at least in part, pivots from the first end about the pivot and the brake rod lifts the cylinder valve and released compression from the engine cylinder.
VALVE OPENING AND CLOSING TIMING CONTROL DEVICE
A valve opening and closing timing control device includes: a driving-side rotating body that rotates synchronously with a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine around a rotating shaft core; a driven-side rotating body that rotates integrally with a valve opening and closing camshaft of the internal combustion engine around the same shaft core as the rotating shaft core; a gear mechanism that sets a relative rotation phase between the driving-side rotating body and the driven-side rotating body by displacement of a meshing position; a motor that enables displacement of the meshing position of the gear mechanism by rotating a rotating shaft; and a control unit that controls the drive of the motor. The control unit intermittently performs control to energize the motor for one phase for a predetermined time after the internal combustion engine is stopped.
