ROTATING ACTUATOR SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING VALVE ACTUATION IN AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A system for controlling actuation of an engine valve comprises a pivot and a torsion spring having first and second legs operatively connected to the pivot. A lever arm is adjustably affixed to and extending away from the pivot, and is further rotatable about a pivot axis of the pivot between a retracted position and an extended position and vice versa relative to a motion conveying component. Furthermore, a housing is provided having a pivot bore formed therein with the pivot rotatably disposed in the pivot bore. The housing further comprises a first and second openings intersecting with the pivot bore such that the first and second legs extend out of the first opening and the lever arm extends out of the second opening. When a first force is applied by the motion conveying component to the lever arm, such first force maintains the lever arm in the extended position.
Variable valve timing method and mechanism
This invention describes a variable valve timing mechanism which may be fitted to an internal combustion engine to provide precise control over timing of the valve opening and closing events of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft. Various methods for its application are described to provide settable valve timing at either predetermined angle selected by the operator, or automatic variable valve timing as governed by parameters of the operating engine. Said mechanism comprised of oppositely located idler rollers, whereas not bound to a single yoke or carrier, are driven by a cam to achieve independent movement of the rollers, which bear against both tension and slack sides of the belt between the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys causing predictable and repeatable variation in valve timing. Thus, this invention, whereby coordinated but non-uniform movements of the idler rollers is achieved by the mechanical appurtenances described herein, including a specially developed cardioid cam to actuate said idler rollers, produces precise changes in camshaft phase angle.
VALVE TIMING ADJUSTMENT DEVICE
Hall sensors respectively output a measurement signal, a voltage level of which changes according to a rotation position of an electric motor. A rotation signal generator of a drive circuit generates a rotation speed signal and a rotation direction signal of the electric motor based on the measurement signals. A control circuit generates control signals of the electric motor according to edges of output signals of the rotation signal generator. A signal corrector corrects an excess or a shortage of the edge of the signal at the time of starting the electric motor based on: the voltage levels of the rotation speed signal and the rotation direction signal at the time of turning off and the time of turning on of an electric power source; and a rotation direction of the electric motor at the time of starting thereof.
Actuation arrangement for a valve train assembly
An actuation arrangement for actuating a plurality of latching arrangements of a respective plurality of dual body rocker arms of a valve train assembly of an internal combustion engine includes: a first shaft comprising one or more first selector cam for controlling the latching arrangements of a first group of one or more of the dual body rocker arms; and a second shaft comprising one or more second selector cams for controlling the latching arrangements of a second group of one or more of the dual body rocker arms. At least a portion of the first shaft is received in the second shaft, and the first shaft and the second shaft are controllable to rotate independently of one another, thereby to allow control of the latching arrangements of the dual body rocker arms on a per group basis.
TAPPET ASSEMBLY FOR VALVE LIFT PROFILE MODIFICATION
A valve train assembly is provided for modifying a lift of at least one intake valve and/or exhaust valve. The valve train assembly includes at least one tappet that is housed in a rocker housing with at least one rocker lever. The at least one tappet is engaged to an actuator that is operable to change the tappet from a first configuration in which all cam lobe motion is imparted to the rocker lever for opening and closing the intake and/or exhaust valve, to a second configuration in which less than all motion of the cam lobe is transferred to the rocker lever.
Valve opening and closing timing control apparatus device
A valve opening and closing timing control device includes a driving-side rotating body, a driven-side rotating body, a stopper configured to determine a mechanical limit of a displacement region of a relative rotation phase, a phase control mechanism configured to change the relative rotation phase, and a control unit configured to control the electric motor so as to displace the actual phase detected by a phase sensor. A limit phase at which the stopper reaches an abutting state is set in advance when rotation of the electric motor is stopped while the internal combustion engine operates. Upon executing stop control of stopping the internal combustion engine, except when the actual phase is already the limit phase, the control unit executes braking control of limiting the rotation of the electric motor by controlling an electric current to be supplied to the electric motor.
Control method and control system for continuously variable valve lift mechanism and vehicle
A control method for a continuously variable valve lift mechanism includes: controlling a continuously variable valve lift mechanism to enter a limp mode when the continuously variable valve lift mechanism fails and disables an automatic valve lift changing function; driving and forcing the continuously variable valve lift mechanism to move to a maximum lift position; and triggering a self locking function to self lock the continuously variable valve lift mechanism at the maximum lift position when the continuously variable valve lift mechanism reaches the maximum lift position. A control system for a continuously variable valve lift mechanism, and a vehicle are also provided.
VALVE TRAIN ASSEMBLY
A type II valve train assembly that selectively opens first and second intake valves and first and second exhaust valves is provided. The valve train assembly includes an intake rocker arm assembly and an exhaust rocker arm assembly. The valve train assembly is configurable for operation in any combination of activated and deactivated states of engine braking and cylinder deactivation. The exhaust rocker arm assembly includes a first exhaust rocker arm, a second exhaust rocker arm and an engine brake exhaust rocker arm. A first exhaust HLA is associated with the first exhaust rocker arm. A second exhaust HLA is associated with the second exhaust valve. An exhaust actuation assembly selectively actuates to alter travel of the first and second exhaust HLA's to change a state of cylinder deactivation between activated and deactivated.
Control device and control method for variable valve timing mechanism
A control device and a control method for variable valve timing mechanism according to the present invention obtains a first measurement of a rotational phase based on a rotational angle of the motor, obtains a second measurement of the rotational phase based on a relative relationship between a rotational angle of the crankshaft and a rotational angle of the camshaft, calibrates the first measurement based on the second measurement, obtains a derivative term proportional to a rate of change in a deviation between the first measurement and a target value, reduces change in derivative term when calibrating the first measurement based on the second measurement, and controls the motor based on a manipulated variable including the derivative term.
Electrically-actuated variable camshaft timing phaser with removable fixture
An electrically-actuated variable camshaft timing (VCT) phaser is employed for use with an internal combustion engine (ICE). The electrically-actuated VCT phaser includes a gear set assembly and a fixture. The gear set assembly has an input gear and an output gear, among other possible components. The input gear receives rotational drive input from an engine crankshaft, and the output gear transmits rotational drive output to an engine camshaft. The fixture is secured in the gear set assembly. Amid installation of the electrically-actuated VCT phaser on the ICE, the fixture constrains rotational movement of the gear set assembly. After installation, the fixture can be removed from the gear set assembly.
