Systems and methods for controlling valves in valve actuation systems in internal combustion engines systems may be particularly suitable for sequencing valve motion in engine environments that combine cylinder deactivation and high-power density (HPD) engine braking. A main event motion system is configured to produce main event motion in one or more valve sets. An engine braking system produces engine braking motion and a cylinder deactivation system selectively deactivates main event motion of the intake and exhaust valves the valve set. A blocking system selectively prevents the cylinder deactivation system from deactivating main event motion of at least one intake valve during the engine braking operation. Thus, main event intake valve motions may be available for braking operations, such as HPD braking where main event intake valve motion may be used to enhance CR braking. One actuator can control deactivation of paired intake and exhaust main event motion.

Cylinder head arrangement for variable valve actuation rocker arm assemblies

A novel cylinder head arrangement for an in-line four cylinder or eight cylinder engine. A modified arrangement allows additional space for installation of wider rocker arm assemblies used for variable valve lift (VVL), cylinder deactivation (CDA) and other types of variable valve actuation (VVA). In one embodiment, cam towers adjacent the end two cylinders are not used. At least one end support is used, which may be an outboard bearing on a camshaft for each end. The wider rocker assemblies may then be installed. In another embodiment, cam towers adjacent the inner two cylinders are eliminated and a single camshaft support piece with a support bearing is installed between the inner cylinders to provide support for the camshafts. The wider rocker assemblies may then be installed on at least one of the middle cylinders. A novel oil control valve operates latches in switching rocker arm assemblies.

The accumulator assembly is disposed in the rocker arm and is fluidly coupled to the hydraulic lash adjuster through an engine brake relief hole. The locking pin assembly is disposed in the rocker am and is selectively movable by a high pressure fluid from a closed position to an open position.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING CYLINDER HEAD, AND SEMIMANUFACTURED CYLINDER HEAD

The disclosure includes manufacturing a semimanufactured cylinder head (3) having a shielding curtain portion (16g) and spraying metal powder (P) onto an annular valve seat portion (16f) using a cold spray method to form a valve seat film (16b). The shielding curtain portion (16g) projects in an annular shape from an annular edge portion of an opening portion (16a) of an intake port (16) or an opening portion (17a) of an exhaust port (17) toward the center (C) of the port. The annular valve seat portion (16f) is located on an outer side of the port than the shielding curtain portion (16g).
