OIL SUPPLY CONTROL DEVICE OF ENGINE
An oil supply control device for an engine includes: a hydraulic controller which outputs a control value to an adjusting device to cause a detected hydraulic pressure detected by a hydraulic pressure sensor to coincide with a predetermined hydraulic pressure value; a determination portion which compares an output control value output from the hydraulic controller to the adjusting device when the detected hydraulic pressure coincides with the predetermined hydraulic pressure value and a control value stored in a memory, to determine whether or not a difference between the output control value and the stored control value lies within a predetermined allowable range; and a device controller which allows activation of a hydraulic actuating device when an oil temperature is not lower than a first temperature in a case where the difference lies within the allowable range, inhibits activation of the hydraulic actuating device when the oil temperature is lower than a second temperature higher than the first temperature in a case where the difference does not lie within the allowable range, and allows activation of the hydraulic actuating device when the oil temperature is not lower than the second temperature in a case where the difference does not lie within the allowable range.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING CAMSHAFT PHASE BASED ON HUMIDITY
A method of phasing the opening and closing of internal combustion engine intake and exhaust valves relative to the rotation of the crankshaft is based upon changes in engine speed, engine load and ambient relative humidity. During certain conditions of higher humidity, in order to maintain good combustion stability and thus overall engine operation, it is necessary to reduce intake and exhaust valve overlap by adjusting the phase of the intake and exhaust camshafts. This is achieved by utilizing a set of cam position reference values and constraints based upon engine speed, engine load and humidity that are contained in lookup tables that adjust and limit cam position and valve overlap. Generally speaking, in order to maintain optimum engine performance, intake and exhaust valve overlap is reduced with higher ambient humidity and vice versa.
Detection apparatus for at least one of temperature and pressure in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine
An apparatus for measuring at least one of temperature and pressure within a cylinder of an internal combustion engine can include an engine valve and a sensor. The internal combustion engine can include a valvetrain having rocker arm assembly, a camshaft, a valve, and a hydraulic lash adjuster. The engine valve can have a valve head and a valve stem extending from the valve head in an axial direction. The valve head can have a valve face configured to be in pressure communication with an engine cylinder. The valve stem can have an outer surface with a cylindrical portion and a variably-shaped portion. The variably-shaped portion can define a target detectable by the sensor and the sensor can be installed adjacent to the target. Alternatively, the sensor can be positioned to detect a level of force at some point along the valvetrain.
Lift regulator for a variable lift valve gear with two working positions
A lift regulator for a variable lift valve gear has a cam contour arranged around an axis of rotation of the lift regulator for deflecting a lift adjustment of the valve gear on rotation of the lift regulator about the axis of rotation. The cam contour has a region deflecting from a resting position, a changeover region, and a region deflecting back to the resting position. A variable lift valve gear and a method for operating the variable lift valve gear are disclosed.
VALVE TIMING CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine; a driving rotation member to which a rotational force is transmitted from a crank shaft; a driven rotation member arranged to rotate as a unit with a cam shaft; and a fixing member disposed between an axial one end portion of the cam shaft and the driven rotation member, the driven rotation member including a first recessed portion formed at a position to confront the axial one end portion of the cam shaft, and the fixing member including a second recessed portion which is formed at a position to confront the axial one end portion of the cam shaft, and in which the one end portion of the cam shaft is mounted from an axial direction, and a raised portion mounted in the first recessed portion.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING VALVE TIMING OF CONTINUOUS VARIABLE VALVE DURATION ENGINE
A method for controlling intake and exhaust valves of an engine may include: determining, by a controller, a target opening duration of the intake and exhaust valves based on an engine load and an engine speed; modifying, by an intake continuous variable valve duration (CVVD) device and by an exhaust CVVD device, current opening and closing timings of the intake valve and/or exhaust valve based on the target opening duration of the valves; and advancing or retarding, by the intake and/or exhaust CVVD devices, the current opening timing of the intake and exhaust valves while simultaneously retarding or advancing the current closing timing of the intake and exhaust valve by a predetermined value based on the target opening duration.
METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SYSTEM
A method for diagnosing a variable valve timing system configured for enhancing precision of diagnosis regarding a variable valve timing system by precisely diagnosing whether an oil pressure detecting device of the variable valve timing system normally operates, may include a normal operation time determining operation of determining a normal operation time of an oil pressure detecting device to determine whether the oil pressure detecting device is normal after an engine starts, and a diagnosing operation of diagnosing whether the oil pressure detecting device is normal according to whether the oil pressure detecting device of the VVT system is turned off within the normal operation time or whether oil pressure reaches reference pressure.
Control device and control method for variable valve timing mechanism
A control device and a control method for a variable valve timing mechanism are provided so as to improve the accuracy of cam phase angle interpolation without using a motor rotation angle sensor. The control device for the variable valve timing mechanism includes a controller configured to detect a phase angle of a cam based on a cam signal and control the phase angle of the cam by using an electric motor. The controller is configured such that a motor torque estimation unit calculates a motor torque from a motor current based on motor characteristics, a motor rotation-angle estimation unit calculates a motor rotation angle at least based on the motor torque and an engine operating state, and a conversion unit and a feedback control unit interpolate the cam phase angle of the variable valve timing mechanism from the motor rotation angle.
