The variable displacement oil pump includes a rotor supported in a housing for rotation about an axis of rotation and a slide ring movably supported in the housing. A plurality of vanes extends between the rotor and the slide ring to define a plurality of variable displacement pumping chambers. An electronic drive mechanism is configured to position the slide ring with respect to the axis of rotation, and a controller is configured to drive the electronic drive mechanism for selectively positioning the slide ring to adjust an eccentricity of the slide ring relative to the axis of rotation such that the displacement of the pumping chambers is varied.

Lubrication circuit layout

An engine-case component and a variable displacement oil pump are provided for an internal combustion engine. The engine-case component includes, but is not limited to a first oil channel suitable for connecting an oil outlet of the variable displacement oil pump with a primary control chamber of the same variable displacement oil pump, a second oil channel suitable for being independently connected with a secondary control chamber of the variable displacement oil pump, and a seat communicating with the first oil channel and the second oil channel, which is suitable for accommodating an electrically driven control valve for selectively opening and closing the communication between the first and the second oil channel.

An object of the present invention is to simplify portions of an oil supply passage which portions are formed at a cylinder block. An oil supply device according to the present invention includes a cylinder block, an oil pan, an oil pump, and an oil filter. Wall portions of the oil pan are coupled to wall portions of the cylinder block. An oil filter is attached to the oil pan. An upstream oil supply passage through which the oil filtrated by the oil filter flows is formed at the oil pan. A downstream oil supply passage including a main gallery extending in a cylinder column direction is formed at the cylinder block. A first communication passage through which the main gallery and the upstream oil supply passage communicate with each other is formed at the wall portion of the cylinder block and the wall portion of the oil pan.

In one example, the cylinder block assembly includes a cylinder block including a plurality of cylinders divided into a first cylinder bank and a second cylinder bank, a valley positioned between the first and second cylinder banks, and a plurality of crankshaft supports. The cylinder block assembly further includes a structural frame including an interior surface coupled to the plurality of crankshaft supports and two top surfaces arranged above the interior surface and on opposing sides of the assembly, where each top surface is coupled to the cylinder block above a top of the plurality of crankshaft supports.
