The present invention relates to a method for converting a full flow oil and/or fuel filter system into a bypass filter system comprising the use of a retro-fittable bypass filter configured to directly replace the pre-existing full flow filter, without the need for additional hoses or mounts etc. as in existing methods. Also described is a filter device for converting a full flow oil and/or fuel filter system into a bypass filter system comprising: an inlet for allowing fluid into the filter; a plurality of screens for filtering particles from the fluid; a cellulose element for filtering moisture from the fluid; an outlet for allowing fluid out of the filter; and a bypass for fluid to bypass the cellulose element and at least one screen and exit the filter, wherein the bypass filter is configured to directly replace the pre-existing full flow filter.

A filter assembly includes a filter head and a filter cartridge. The filter head includes a filter head coupling surface, a filter head outlet, a filter head inner wall, and a filter head outer wall. The filter head coupling surface defines a filter head opening. The filter head outlet is configured to provide a fluid. The filter head inner wall extends around the filter head outlet. The filter head outer wall extends around the filter head inner wall. The filter head inner wall and the filter head outer wall collectively define a filter head channel. The filter cartridge includes a filter cartridge shell and a filter element. The filter cartridge shell has a filter cartridge coupling surface that is configured to be coupled to the filter head coupling surface. The filter cartridge shell defines a filter cartridge opening.

The engine oil system comprises an oil pan (10) for holding oil received from the oil using components, an oil pump (20) fluidly connected to the oil pan for pumping oil from the oil pan to the oil using components, and an oil filter (30, 30′ 130) configured for cleaning the oil. The oil filter has a filter inlet (32, 32′, 132) for receiving oil to be cleaned, and a filter outlet (34, 34′ 134) for discharging oil from the oil filter. The oil filter is arranged in the oil pan such that, in use, the filter outlet discharges oil into the oil pan.

Engine

An engine is described having a crankcase, a liner and a head assembly. The crankcase is split along a plane defining a two part crankcase, where fluid passages are passing through only one of the crankcase portions, so as to not require crossing the split line. A connecting rod also includes a tapered end, and the piston has a complementary carrier receiving the connecting rod.

A plurality of inlets and outlets can be disposed on the filter head at different sides of the filter head. A pair of filter headers can be disposed on a first side to receive filter. A first inlet and outlet can be disposed on a second side, and a second inlet and outlet can be disposed on a third side. Respective inlet are fluidly coupled with an inlet passage in the head, which is fluidly coupled with an intake portion of the filter headers. Respective outlets are fluidly coupled with an outlet passage in the head, which is fluidly coupled with an outflow portion of the filter headers.
