Device for automatic sensing of made and missed sporting attempts

A basketball shot counter includes a mounting shaped and sized to connect the basketball shot counter to a portion of a basketball goal having a basketball hoop; a vibration sensor; a processor in data communication with the vibration sensor, wherein the processor is configured to receive, from the vibration sensor, a datastream of vibration sensor readings; determine, from the datastream of vibration sensor readings, that a first basketball shot was attempted without successfully going through the basketball hoop; and determine, from the datastream of vibration sensor readings, that a second basketball shot was attempted and successfully went through the basketball hoop.

Method of manufacturing mouth guard having internal components for sensing impact forces

A mouth guard senses impact forces and determines if the forces exceed an impact threshold. If so, the mouth guard notifies the user of the risk for injury by haptic feedback, vibratory feedback, and/or audible feedback. The mouth guard system may also remotely communicate the status of risk and the potential injury. The mouth guard uses a local memory device to store impact thresholds based on personal biometric information obtained from the user and compares the sensed forces relative to those threshold values. The mouth guard and its electrical components on the printed circuit board are custom manufactured for the user such that the mouth guard provides a comfortable and reliable fit, while ensuring exceptional performance.

A system for illustrating the flight of a sports ball includes a radar, an imager, and a controller. The imager is configured to image a moving sports ball. The controller is configured to (i) receive, from the imager, an image including the moving sports ball, (ii) receive, from the radar, radar data associated with the moving sports ball, (iii) determine, from the radar data, a portion of a trajectory of the moving sports ball, (iv) alter the image to illustrate the portion of the trajectory relative to the moving sports ball, and (v) output the altered image.

Method and system for localization of ball hit events

It is disclosed a method, and a system (30) capable of localizing ball hit events on a sports court. From on acoustics data acquired (22) of ball hit events by individual distributed sensors or microphones, ball hitting patterns are identified (24) in the data from each individual sensor. Based on the identified ball hitting patterns and geometric constraints of a sports court and the distribution of sensors, ball hit events are detected (26). The localization of the detected ball bit events is determined (28) based on the geometrical constraints of the sports court and the sensor distribution. The system has a number of advantages of which some are that it is cheap to install, it is non-invasive, and that it can easily be extended to provide higher precision of ball hit event localization.

Line fault detection systems and method for determining whether a sport gaming device has bounced off an area of a sports field

We generally describe an audio-based line fault detection system for a sports game. The audio-based line fault detection system comprises one or more audio sensors (102) for sensing an audio signal generated by a sports gaming device bouncing off a sports field. The sports field comprises surface modifications applied to a line and/or an area adjacent to the line on the sports field such that the generated audio signal is dependent on whether or not the sports gaming device bounces off the sports field where the surface modifications are applied. The detection system is configured to generate a sound profile from the audio signal sensed by the one or more audio sensors (102). The detection system is further configured to identify a bounce type based on the sound profile, wherein the bounce type is defined by whether or not the sports gaming device has bounced off the sports field where the surface modifications are applied.

Protective headgear includes, for example, a headgear body that is wearable on a head of a baseball umpire. At least one sensor is configured to generate imaging data that includes a batter in proximity to home plate. A processor analyzes the imaging data to determine a strike zone of the batter and to generate augmented reality data in response thereto. A display device generates a heads up display of the strike zone that is viewable to the baseball umpire during a pitch to the batter, based on the augmented reality data. Other embodiments are disclosed.

INFRARED HOCKEY PUCK AND GOAL DETECTION SYSTEM
20210252368 · 2021-08-19 ·

The two-part system includes a modified hockey puck and a set of goal units that can be mounted on a hockey goal. Within the puck are light sources, motion sensors, infrared'transmitters, and a power source. Within the goal units are light sources, infrared sensors, and a microcontroller. When the goal units are mounted on the hockey goal, the infrared sensors form a detection area through which the puck must pass in order to count as a goal. The infrared transmitter of the puck and the infrared sensors of the goal units communicate with one another, and when an infrared signal is received the microcontroller triggers the light sources mounted to the goal to illuminate and indicate that a goal has been scored. Additionally, both the puck and the goal units are designed to reduce power consumption by switching between a low-energy mode or an active mode of operation.

System and method adapted to enable simultaneous play of one or more sports games in the same facility with automated ball delivery, tracking and collection
11083953 · 2021-08-10 · ·

The present invention comprises a unique system and method for providing adaptable ball delivery and tracking, including appropriate sensor hardware, interactive gameplay user interfaces and point of sales systems. The system and method of the present invention are especially relevant to baseball and softball as, among other components, the system comprises a vertical, ground-up soft toss ball delivery mechanism, automated player and ball-tracking devices, and ball-collection and transport systems. The ball collection and return components eliminate the need for “fielders” and enable the creation of the first “batting range”. The vertical, ground-up soft-toss pitch machine further enables the first multi-story batting facility with player batting bays that open onto a sports field. Further, certain embodiments of the present invention integrate hitting screens, augmented reality display and simultaneous coordination of gameplay and communication between players, regardless of the players' physical location.
