One aspect of the present disclosure provides a muffler including an exhaust pipe and a space forming member. The exhaust pipe has a cylindrical shape having a flow passage inside through which exhaust gas passes. The space forming member forms closed spaces between itself and the exhaust pipe, the closed spaces being branched from the flow passage and adjacent to the flow passage. Each of the closed spaces and the flow passage communicate with one another via a single communication hole.

MULTI-MODE EXHAUST MUFFLER

A multi-mode muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine provides a rotary plate that modulates exhaust gas flow between a first and second flow path. Each flow path may provide different sound dampening characteristics, thereby providing different sound profiles with the same muffler. In a disclosed embodiment, the rotary plate is driven by a shaft coupled to an external actuator. Also, a third possible position of the rotary plate may allow flow through both the first and second flow paths, thereby providing a third possible noise profile. One of the sound profiles may be louder than the other thereby allowing the muffler to switch between “loud” and “quiet” modes of operation.

A muffler includes a first tube defining a first inlet for receiving exhaust and a first outlet. The muffler includes a housing defining a tuning chamber. The muffler includes a second tube at least partially received within the first tube. Further, the second tube defines a second inlet disposed within the first tube and a second outlet disposed in fluid communication with the tuning chamber. The muffler further includes a muffler outlet for discharging exhaust from the muffler. Moreover, the first tube and the second tube define an annular passage therebetween. The annular passage is disposed in fluid communication with the first outlet of the first tube and the muffler outlet.

Engine Muffler Apparatus

An engine muffler apparatus for reducing noise and pollution from small gas engines such as those on landscaping tools includes an outer housing having a central neck extension with a principal aperture extending through to an outer housing cavity. The neck extension is selectively engageable with an exhaust of a small gas engine. The outer housing cavity has a plurality of vent apertures. An intake extension tube and a medial tube are coupled to the outer housing cavity. The medial tube has a medial cavity. A first filtering medium is coupled within the medial cavity and filters pollutants passing therethrough. A second filtering medium is coupled within the outer housing cavity outside of the medial tube and dampens sound waves passing through the apparatus from the exhaust.

A vehicle exhaust device includes a muffler body that has an interior space divided into a plurality of expansion chambers by a partition wall, and an exhaust control valve that switches an exhaust passage in the muffler body. The exhaust passage includes a first exhaust passage and a second exhaust passage. The first exhaust passage connects an upstream end and a downstream end of the muffler body straight. The second exhaust passage passes through the plurality of expansion chambers via a connecting pipe that connects the plurality of expansion chambers. A center of the first exhaust passage is located above a center of the muffler body in a vehicle upper-lower direction, and the second exhaust passage is located below the first exhaust passage.

Exhaust valve damper

A snap-action valve assembly for an exhaust system is provided with a conduit that defines an exhaust passageway. A valve flap is disposed within the exhaust passageway for controlling exhaust flow.
