Muffler

A muffler comprises a plurality of tubes disposed within an inner chamber. The holes are at least partially punched through the tubes so that hanging chads extend into the tubes at each hole. The tubes form a serpentine flow-path through the chamber through which exhaust flows. One or more diffusion brackets are also disposed within the chamber and downstream from one or more tube outlets.

Component of an exhaust system and method for manufacturing such a component

A component of an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine comprises a wall in which at least one opening is provided. A perforated cover at least partly closes the at least one opening. The perforated cover is mounted on the wall using a holder, and a portion of the perforated cover engages into an opening provided on the holder. There is also presented an exhaust system comprising such a component, and a method for manufacturing such a component, in which the perforated cover is mounted on the holder by introducing at least one portion of the perforated cover into an opening provided on the holder.

Exhaust fluid collision type muffler

A muffler may include a thin plate mesh provided in an internal space of an inlet chamber formed at a side opposite to an outlet chamber of a muffler housing such that gas contained in exhaust fluid passes through the thin plate mesh by collision of the exhaust fluid against the thin plate mesh and water contained in the exhaust fluid is separated from the gas; a water movement guide fluidically-connected to the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber for allowing the water gathered at the front side of the thin plate mesh in the internal space of the inlet chamber to flow therein and move to the outlet chamber; and a muffler pipe connected to the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber for allowing the gas gathered at the rear side of the thin plate mesh in the internal space of the inlet chamber to move to the outlet chamber.

Muffler structure of saddle-type vehicle

There is provided a muffler structure of a saddle-type vehicle. The muffler structure is disposed at a downstream side of an exhaust pipe extending from an exhaust port of a cylinder head. A pipe is connected to the exhaust pipe and inserted into a muffler main body. The pipe is provided with an expansion chamber having an inner diameter that is larger than an inner diameter of the exhaust pipe. At least a part of the expansion chamber is disposed in the muffler main body, and a plurality of through holes are formed on an outer peripheral surface of the expansion chamber disposed in the muffler main body.

An exhaust muffler has an outer cylinder into which an exhaust gas from an engine is introduced and a muffling member made of a foamed ceramic material. The outer cylinder has an inner cylinder through which the exhaust gas passes, a part of the muffling member is supported by an outer wall of the inner cylinder via a holding member. The inner cylinder includes, in an area where the inner cylinder overlaps with the muffling member with respect to axial direction of the inner cylinder, a porous wall portion formed with communication holes communicating an inside and an outside of the inner cylinder. The holding member is arranged at a position where it does not overlap with a part of the porous wall portion, so that muffling effect is enhanced, and the muffling member having a low resistance to impact forces can be supported stably by the inner cylinder.

Exhaust valve damper

A snap-action valve assembly for an exhaust system is provided with a conduit that defines an exhaust passageway. A valve flap is disposed within the exhaust passageway for controlling exhaust flow. A shaft supports the valve flap in the exhaust passageway and allows the valve flap to rotate between closed and open positions. A mass damper, positioned outside the conduit, includes a longitudinal segment that is rotatably coupled to the shaft and that extends between first and second coiled ends. The longitudinal segment includes an inboard side and an outboard side. The first and second coiled ends include a series of overlapping layers arranged in either a folded serpentine shape or a spiral shape.

An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas pathway configured to receive exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine, a first injector configured to selectively introduce a first reductant into the exhaust gas pathway in response to a sensed temperature of the exhaust gas being within a predetermined temperature range, and a first treatment element positioned within the exhaust gas pathway downstream of the first injector. The first treatment element includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) layer, a porous filter substrate, and a precious metal catalyst layer. The system also includes a second injector configured to introduce a second reductant into the exhaust gas pathway downstream of the first treatment element and a second treatment element positioned within the exhaust gas pathway downstream of the second injector. The second treatment element includes a SCR element.

Muffler with easy discharge of condensate

A muffler with ease discharge of condensate may include a housing formed of a cylinder shape and provided with an end plate at both end portions thereof, at least one baffle disposed in the housing to divide the internal space of housing into a plurality of chambers, an inlet pipe introducing exhaust gas in the housing, an outlet pipe discharging the exhaust gas from the housing the outside, so that the exhaust gas flowed into the inlet pipe flows through the chamber divided in the housing to be discharged through the outlet pipe, a condensate collecting tube disposed along the lower surface of the housing and provided with a passage in which the condensate gathered in the lower surface of the housing is introduced to be flowed and a condensate inducing tube connecting the condensate collecting tube and the outlet pipe.
