Muffler device
A lightweight and compact muffler device that can be installed in a limited space in an inside of a generator. A top cover and an undercover (end cover) provided on a top and a bottom of a vertically disposed casing are each formed in substantially trapezoidal shape. Thereby, an inner capacity of the casing can be secured to be large, as a result of which, a size of the muffler device can be made compact, and no extra component is required, so that reduction in manufacturing cost and reduction in weight can be achieved. Since the casing is disposed vertically, it is possible to install the casing even when an installation space is small in an inside of a housing of a generator, and it is possible to make the generator compact.
Tuning a sound profile of a muffler
Apparatuses and methods for tuning a muffler. An apparatus comprises a housing for a muffler, a first inlet pipe, and a second inlet pipe. The housing includes a coupling chamber. The first inlet pipe has a first set of physical features and carries exhaust to the coupling chamber. The second inlet pipe has a second set of physical features and carries the exhaust to the coupling chamber. The first set of physical features varies from the second set of physical features with respect to at least one physical feature such that a first sound waveform passing through the first inlet pipe and a second sound waveform passing through the second inlet pipe are uniquely tuned to thereby tune an overall sound waveform emitted by the muffler.
OUTBOARD MOTOR
An outboard motor that controls combustion in an engine according to a purification rate by a catalyst and is capable of performing efficient engine combustion. The outboard motor includes a catalyst provided in an exhaust manifold of an engine and a second catalyst provided in an exhaust pipe, an air-fuel ratio sensor and an O2 sensor, which are located on an upstream side and a downstream side of the catalyst, respectively, and a controller for controlling combustion in the engine. The controller calculates an exhaust gas purification rate based on a value detected by the air-fuel ratio sensor or the O2 sensor and controls the combustion in the engine so as to make the exhaust gas purification rate appropriate.
Exhaust gas purification device
An exhaust gas purification device includes a pre-oxidation catalyst disposed in an exhaust gas passage and a muffler that is provided in such a manner as to surround the pre-oxidation catalyst, and discharges exhaust gas while reducing noise. The muffler has an inlet which is connected to an upstream side exhaust pipe and an outlet which is connected to a downstream side exhaust pipe. The exhaust gas purification device includes a downstream side purification device that is disposed in the exhaust gas passage, and accommodates a second oxidation catalyst and a particulate matter removing filter. The exhaust gas is discharged to the atmosphere after the exhaust gas flows through the downstream side purification device.
Exhaust device for internal combustion engine
An exhaust muffler includes a first muffler section having a tubular member made up of an inner pipe to which an exhaust pipe is connected and an outer pipe covering the inner pipe, and a connector connecting the tubular member and a second muffler section to each other, and the second muffler section having an outer shell, a first partition wall, a second partition wall, and a third partition wall. Exhaust gases delivered from the exhaust pipe are discharged from the first muffler section and the second muffler section out of the exhaust muffler. The second muffler section has a cross-sectional area larger than a cross-sectional area of the tubular member. The exhaust muffler includes a first expansion chamber, a second expansion chamber, and a third expansion chamber. The second muffler section includes a fluid communication pipe extending through the first partition wall and the second partition wall for leading exhaust gases from the first expansion chamber into the second expansion chamber, and an exhaust passage pipe held in fluid communication with the third expansion chamber and extending through the second partition and the third partition wall. The second partition wall has a fluid communication hole defined therein that provides fluid communication between the second expansion chamber and the third expansion chamber. There is thus provided an engine exhaust device capable of increasing a silencing capability by increasing the length of a route through which the exhaust gases flow while maintaining the length of the exhaust device.
Multi-chambered sound attenuation with resonant frequency targeting
An apparatus for engine exhaust sound attenuation includes a housing, a plurality of baffle plates arranged within the housing. The baffle plates are disposed apart from each other to define a plurality of intermediate chambers. The plurality of intermediate chambers includes a first resonant chamber proximate to the outlet chamber, a second resonant chamber proximate to the inlet chamber, a first intermediate chamber proximate to the second resonant chamber, and a second intermediate chamber proximate to the first intermediate chamber and the first resonant chamber. An inlet tube and an outlet tube are included. A first tube directs a flow of exhaust from the inlet chamber to one of the plurality of intermediate chambers via an interior of the first tube. Additionally, a second tube directs the flow of exhaust from a second one of the plurality of intermediate chambers to the outlet chamber via an interior of the second tube.
System and method for low CO emission engine
In one aspect, a system is provided and includes an engine including an exhaust valve, an exhaust manifold downstream of the exhaust valve and a muffler downstream of the exhaust manifold. The system also includes a catalyst positioned downstream of the exhaust valve.
Method and apparatus to enable package space reduction in a vehicle exhaust system
A vehicle exhaust system includes a hot end having one or more hot end exhaust components that treat emissions generated by an engine and a cold end that includes at least one cold end component that attenuates noise. At least one acoustic volume is in parallel or serial to the hot end to further attenuate noise.
Tunable resonator
The gas turbine engine includes a fluid system fluidly connecting at least two components of the gas turbine engine, and a tunable resonator in fluid flow communication with the fluid system. The tunable resonator has a resonating volume that varies as a function of a volume of an inflatable member located inside the tunable resonator. The inflatable member having a means for varying the volume of the inflatable member, to thereby tune the resonating volume to a selected frequency of pressure fluctuations or acoustic waves within the fluid system.
EXHAUST MUFFLER
An exhaust muffler has an outer cylinder into which an exhaust gas from an engine is introduced and a muffling member made of a foamed ceramic material. The outer cylinder has an inner cylinder through which the exhaust gas passes, a part of the muffling member is supported by an outer wall of the inner cylinder via a holding member. The inner cylinder includes, in an area where the inner cylinder overlaps with the muffling member with respect to axial direction of the inner cylinder, a porous wall portion formed with communication holes communicating an inside and an outside of the inner cylinder. The holding member is arranged at a position where it does not overlap with a part of the porous wall portion, so that muffling effect is enhanced, and the muffling member having a low resistance to impact forces can be supported stably by the inner cylinder.
