An exhaust system for an internal combustion engine; the exhaust system comprises: at least one an exhaust duct, which originates from the internal combustion engine; at least one exhaust gas treatment device, which is arranged along the exhaust duct; and a silencing device, which is arranged along the exhaust duct downstream of the exhaust gas treatment device. The silencing device comprises a silencing valve, which intercepts the exhaust duct and is movable between a completely open position and a completely closed position. In the completely closed position, the silencing valve has a first free section for the passage of the exhaust gases having a first area other than zero, so that the exhaust gases can flow through the silencing valve even when the silencing valve is in the completely closed position.

Vehicle exhaust device

A vehicle exhaust device includes a muffler body that has an interior space divided into a plurality of expansion chambers by a partition wall, and an exhaust control valve that switches an exhaust passage in the muffler body. The exhaust passage includes a first exhaust passage and a second exhaust passage. The first exhaust passage connects an upstream end and a downstream end of the muffler body straight. The second exhaust passage passes through the plurality of expansion chambers via a connecting pipe that connects the plurality of expansion chambers. A center of the first exhaust passage is located above a center of the muffler body in a vehicle upper-lower direction, and the second exhaust passage is located below the first exhaust passage.

Vacuum pump silencer

A silencer for vacuum pumps which allows only for unidirectional flow and which reduces the noises caused by the air discharged at the exhaust of said pump. The silencer features baffles to divert and disrupt the flow and an umbrella check valve to ensure the unidirectionality of the discharge flow.

Exhaust valve damper

A snap-action valve assembly for an exhaust system is provided with a conduit that defines an exhaust passageway. A valve flap is disposed within the exhaust passageway for controlling exhaust flow. A shaft supports the valve flap in the exhaust passageway and allows the valve flap to rotate between closed and open positions. A mass damper, positioned outside the conduit, includes a longitudinal segment that is rotatably coupled to the shaft and that extends between first and second coiled ends. The longitudinal segment includes an inboard side and an outboard side. The first and second coiled ends include a series of overlapping layers arranged in either a folded serpentine shape or a spiral shape.

Control System for a Valve

The preferred invention is directed to a controller for a vehicle exhaust valve. The controller comprises a vehicle interface for determining a live value for an operating parameter of a vehicle, a recording module being configured to, upon activation, instantaneously record the live value of the operating parameter, and a programming module for determining a value range based on the recorded live value and allowing a desired position of the valve to be set such that during operation, the control system automatically moves the valve to the desired position when the operating parameter is within the value range.

Exhaust control valve of saddle-riding vehicle

An engine exhaust control valve of a saddle-riding vehicle is provided with: a valve shaft disposed in an intersecting manner with a center line of a main pipe portion of an engine exhaust pipe; a valve plate mounted on the valve shaft and rotatably positioned within an inner peripheral surface of the main pipe portion; a valve rotational drive portion mounted on one shaft end of the valve shaft; a drive motor for driving the valve rotational drive portion; and a control unit for controlling the drive motor. Protruding portions with which outer peripheral edges of the valve plate are brought into contact at a rotational limit of the valve plate in a closing direction are formed on an inner peripheral surface of the main pipe portion. The above structure provides a high degree of sealing.

A selective acoustic soundproofing device for a vehicle includes a housing that is configured to couple to an exhaust system of the vehicle so that an internal space defined by the housing is in fluidic communication with the exhaust system. A wall that is coupled to the housing extends from proximate to the first end to proximate to the second end of the housing to define a first passage and a second passage through the housing. A selector that is coupled to the housing is configured to selectively direct sound pressure from the engine through the first and second passages. A baffle positioned in the first passage is configured for acoustic quieting of loudness of the sound pressure when the selector is positioned to direct the sound pressure from the engine through the first passage relative to when the selector is positioned to direct the sound pressure through the second passage.

METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSING ACTIVE EXHAUST VALVES BASED ON TEMPERATURE AND THERMAL IMAGE DATA

Methods and systems are provided for diagnosing an active exhaust valve in an exhaust system based on thermal data. In one example, a method may include indicating degradation of a first active exhaust valve positioned in a first exhaust pipe of a first engine bank based on a difference between a first temperature of exhaust downstream of the first active exhaust valve and a second temperature of exhaust downstream of a second active exhaust valve positioned in a second exhaust pipe of a second engine bank. Degradation of the valve may be confirmed based on thermal image data acquired at outlets of the first and second exhaust pipes.
