Vehicle exhaust system

A vehicle exhaust system includes a tubular component which allow passage of exhaust gases therethrough. The tubular component includes an upstream pipe having a first end and a second end. The tubular component further includes a downstream pipe having a third end and a fourth end. The third end of the downstream pipe at least partially encloses the second end of the upstream pipe such that the upstream pipe and the downstream pipe together define a junction region and the fourth end defines a primary exhaust gas flow path. The downstream pipe at least partially defines an opening within the junction region such that the opening provides a secondary exhaust gas flow path.

An exhaust pulse balance chamber comprising a circular collar, mid-section that bulges at its center, skirt, and right and left legs, all of which are sealed to the exterior environment and in fluid communication with one another. The outer diameter of the skirt increases in width but not in depth from the proximal end of the skirt to the distal end of the skirt, which is configured to receive the right and left legs. Each leg is bent at a 30-degree angle relative to the central longitudinal axis of the exhaust pulse balance chamber. The invention includes a method of using the exhaust pulse balance chamber to convert a vehicle from a dual-in, single-out exhaust system to a dual-in, dual-out exhaust system.

VEHICLE EXHAUST SYSTEM

A vehicle exhaust system for allowing passage of exhaust gasses therethrough. The vehicle exhaust system has a first pipe having a first end and a second end. The first end defines an exhaust gas inlet and the second end defines an exhaust gas outlet. The vehicle exhaust system also has a second pipe positioned downstream of the first pipe and has a third end and a fourth end. At least a portion of the second end of first pipe is positioned within the third end of the second pipe defining an overlap between the second end of the first pipe and the third end of the second pipe. The first pipe and the second pipe together define a volume for the exhaust gasses. The volume comprises a first volume passageway between the exhaust gas inlet and the exhaust gas outlet and a second volume passageway defined by the overlap of the second pipe and the first pipe and having an inlet for exhaust gasses into the second volume passageway and an outlet from the second volume passageway positioned axially upstream of inlet. The inlet is positioned downstream of the exhaust gas outlet

The invention relates to a method for replacing an exhaust aftertreatment component of an exhaust aftertreatment system in a vehicle or vessel. The exhaust aftertreatment system is delimited by an outer casing and comprises a first sleeve, which extends in an axial direction and contains a first exhaust aftertreatment component mounted directly in the first sleeve. The method comprises the steps of: removing the first exhaust aftertreatment component from the first sleeve, the first sleeve thereby remaining intact within the outer casing, providing a second exhaust aftertreatment component being mounted in a second sleeve, the second sleeve being configured to fit within the first sleeve, and mounting the second sleeve with the second exhaust aftertreatment component in the first sleeve by inserting the second sleeve into the first sleeve in the axial direction thereof.

Muffler for engine

A muffler for an engine includes a muffler body, at least one partition wall, and at least one reinforcing plate. The muffler body has an inner space formed by a shell. The partition wall includes a flange portion which is in tight contact with an inner surface of the shell, and the partition wall divides the inner space of the muffler body into a plurality of chambers. The reinforcing plate is welded on an outer surface of the shell at a position facing the flange portion of the partition wall.

Method for welding together two components, preferably of an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, by resistance welding
