An internal combustion engine is equipped with a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinders and an in-block water jacket, a cylinder head having an in-head water jacket, and a head gasket. The in-block water jacket includes a plurality of cylinder outer peripheral portions. The head gasket includes a plurality of coolant opening portions. The internal combustion engine is configured such that coolant sequentially flows through the cylinder outer peripheral portions along a cylinder bank direction in the in-block water jacket. The head gasket includes one or a plurality of dam portions provided, in such a manner as to block the flow of coolant, at a position downstream of the coolant opening portion corresponding to the cylinder outer peripheral portion located at least most downstream in an in-block coolant flow direction.

Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to an internal combustion engine cylinder head. In one example embodiment, the cylinder head includes a combustion chamber, a fire deck, an intermediate deck remote from a combustion chamber, a central receptacle that receives an injection or ignition device, at least one valve bridge, at least two adjacent gas exchange valves, a top-down cooling system, at least one first transfer opening, and at least one second transfer opening. The top-down cooling system including a first sub-cooling chamber and a second sub-cooling chamber. The at least one first transfer opening positioned between the first sub-cooling chamber and the second sub-cooling chamber. The at least one second transfer opening positioned between the first sub-cooling chamber and the second sub-cooling chamber is arranged in the region in the region of the at least one valve bridge between the at least two adjacent gas exchange valves.

INTEGRATED EXHAUST MANIFOLD COOLING JACKET

Systems for an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head are provided. In one example, an exhaust manifold for a vehicle includes a plurality of exhaust runners coupling a plurality of cylinder exhaust gas outlet ports to an exhaust exit port, the plurality of exhaust runners forming at least a first exhaust passage and a second exhaust passage at the exhaust exit port; an upper cooling jacket positioned vertically above the first exhaust passage; a lower cooling jacket positioned vertically below the second exhaust passage; and a central cooling jacket positioned vertically below the first exhaust passage and vertically above the second passage.

The engine includes a cylinder head provided over a cylinder row, an intercooler provided on one end side of the cylinder head in a row direction of the cylinder row, an air supply manifold to introduce air from the intercooler to the cylinder head, and a cooling piping connected to the intercooler, where the cylinder head, air supply manifold, and cooling piping are arranged in a width direction intersecting the row direction of the cylinder row in stated order of the cylinder head, air supply manifold, and cooling piping, and in a cross section of the air supply manifold taken along a line intersecting the row direction, a length along the width direction is shorter than a length along a direction intersecting both the row direction and the width direction.

An applied-ignition internal combustion engine includes first and second combustion chambers, an exhaust-gas system with an exhaust-gas purification system is disposed at the first and second combustion chambers, and an exhaust-gas manifold. An exhaust gas from a combustion of a fuel/air mixture firstly flows through the exhaust-gas manifold and subsequently flows through the exhaust-gas purification system. A first section of the exhaust-gas system from the first combustion chamber to the exhaust-gas purification system is cooled more than a second section of the exhaust-gas system from the second combustion chamber to the exhaust-gas purification system. The first combustion chamber is operated with a lean fuel/air mixture, the second combustion chamber is operated with a rich fuel/air mixture, and an overall exhaust-gas lambda value at an inlet into the exhaust-gas purification system is stoichiometric.

COOLING SYSTEM FOR CYLINDER HEAD AND COOLING SYSTEM FOR VEHICLE PROVIDED WITH THE SAME

A cylinder head cooling system may include a main water jacket formed on a cylinder head, an exhaust port formed on the cylinder head, and an exhaust port water jacket formed to cool the exhaust port, wherein, the exhaust port water jacket includes an inlet that communicates with the main water jacket and a plurality of outlets separated from the main water jacket.

Manufacture of heat transfer jackets

Heat transfer jackets with various passage configurations for cooling or heating equipment. For the equipment of interest, one or more regions of maximum heat transfer are identified. For these regions, the cooling jacket is configured with at least one of the following heat transfer passage geometries: impinging jets, curved blades, columns, dimpled interface, organic, or turbulator. The passage geometries are then manufactured using additive manufacturing.
