Internal combustion engine coolant flow control

An internal combustion engine includes an engine block, a combustion cylinder including a cylinder wall, engine oil and engine coolant. Control of the internal combustion engine includes estimating the cylinder wall temperature in a temperature state estimator, comparing the estimated cylinder wall temperature to a predetermined temperature threshold, and circulating the engine coolant in the engine when the estimated cylinder wall temperature exceeds the predetermined temperature threshold.

An internal combustion engine is equipped with a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinders and an in-block water jacket, a cylinder head having an in-head water jacket, and a head gasket. The in-block water jacket includes a plurality of cylinder outer peripheral portions. The head gasket includes a plurality of coolant opening portions. The internal combustion engine is configured such that coolant sequentially flows through the cylinder outer peripheral portions along a cylinder bank direction in the in-block water jacket. The head gasket includes one or a plurality of dam portions provided, in such a manner as to block the flow of coolant, at a position downstream of the coolant opening portion corresponding to the cylinder outer peripheral portion located at least most downstream in an in-block coolant flow direction.

Marine drives and cooling systems for marine drives having a crankcase cooler

A marine drive is for propelling a vessel in body of water. The marine drive has a powerhead, a crankcase on the powerhead, and a cooling system that pumps a first flow of cooling water from the body of water through a powerhead cooling conduit for cooling the powerhead and in parallel pumps a second flow of cooling water from the body of water through a crankcase cooler for cooling the crankcase and lubricant in the crankcase. A valve controls the second flow of the cooling water to the crankcase cooler. The valve is normally positioned in a closed position, which inhibits the second flow of cooling water to the crankcase cooler and thereby reduces condensation of water from the lubricant in the crankcase. The valve is moved into an open position upon operation of the powerhead at or above a threshold speed, which permits the second flow of cooling water to the crankcase cooler and thereby cools the lubricant in the crankcase. Corresponding methods of operating the marine drive and cooling system are provided.

Valve device

A housing has a housing main body and an outlet port. The housing main body includes a cylindrical housing inner wall that defines an internal space therein. The outlet port fluidly connects the internal space and an outside of the housing main body to each other. The valve has a valve body rotatable about an rotation axis along a rotation axis of the cylindrical housing inner wall. The valve is configured to selectively open and close the outlet port depending on a rotation position of the valve. The housing inner wall is formed such that a distance between the housing inner wall and the axis of the housing inner wall varies in a circumferential direction.

TECHNIQUES FOR ENGINE COOLING USING SUPERCRITICAL FLUIDS AND A COMBUSTION ENGINE SYSTEM IMPLEMENTING THE SAME

Combustion engines, and more particularly, integrating a supercritical fluid passageway into a cylinder head and/or cylinder block of an engine, and preferably, a combustion engine. Both a combustion engine system and a method of cooling a cylinder head in an internal combustion engine, utilizing supercritical fluid, are disclosed.

Methods and systems for cooling arrangement

Methods and systems are provided for a cooling arrangement. In one example, a system comprises a separator arranged in a block coolant jacket. The separator fluidly separates an upper portion of the block coolant jacket from a lower portion of the block coolant jacket.

A cylinder head cooling system may include a main water jacket formed on a cylinder head, an exhaust port formed on the cylinder head, and an exhaust port water jacket formed to cool the exhaust port, wherein, the exhaust port water jacket includes an inlet that communicates with the main water jacket and a plurality of outlets separated from the main water jacket.

Flow control valve apparatus

A flow control valve apparatus switches a circulation direction of cooling medium according to a rotated position of a valve, and a disc provided in the valve controls the flow rate of the cooling medium flowing through a plurality of flow paths, so that the flow rate control of the cooling medium is diversified according to various conditions to improve cooling performance by efficiently circulating the cooling medium.
