ENGINE COOLANT SYSTEM AND METHOD
Methods and systems are provided for a coolant system coupled to cylinders in a locomotive engine. In one example, a coolant system coupled to an individual cylinder may include a cylinder liner jacket encircling the cylinder, a cylinder head lower coolant jacket surrounding a lower surface of a cylinder head placed over the cylinder, a cylinder head upper coolant jacket surrounding an upper surface of the cylinder head, and a cylinder head exhaust port cooling jacket surrounding an exhaust port of the cylinder. Coolant may flow to each of the cooling jackets from a coolant feed gallery located in the engine crankcase, and after flowing through the engine, the coolant may return to a coolant return gallery also located in the engine crankcase.
Method and system for determining thermal state
Systems and methods are provided for determining a temperature of a thermal system that includes fluid conduits. A sensor monitors a current state of the temperature. A controller receives a signal from the sensor that is representative of the current state; determines a flow in the fluid conduits; determines a noise covariance of the thermal system; processes a thermal model of the thermal system; predicts a next-step state of the parameter at a time after the current state; and corrects the next-step state based, at least in-part, on the noise covariance resulting in a corrected next-step state.
Method and system for water usage on-board a vehicle
Methods are provided for optimizing usage of water harvested or generated on-board a vehicle. An amount of water selected for injection or spraying purposes, as well as an order of water injection responsive to various vehicle operating conditions, is varied based on the amount of water to be delivered, as well as a current water level relative to a predicted future water level. The method allows water usage benefits to be maximized particularly when water availability is limited.
ENGINE COOLING DEVICE
An engine cooling device has a mechanical water pump, a flow rate control valve having a valve body of which a relative rotational position is changed by a motor, and a control unit that performs drive control of the motor to change the relative rotational position of the valve body to a target relative rotational position. The control unit performs protection control for setting the relative rotational position where a withstanding pressure limit rotational speed is equal to or higher than a current engine rotational speed, as a target operating position of the valve body of the flow rate control valve when the engine rotational speed rises, and performs retreat control for reducing a set range of the target relative rotational position to a prescribed retreat operation range when the supply voltage of the in-vehicle electric power supply has dropped.
ACTIVE THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FLOW CONTROL
Systems and methods are provided for management of a thermal system. A system for thermal management includes a thermal system with fluid conduits. A sensor is disposed to monitor an input parameter state of the thermal system. An actuator is configured to vary a flow in the fluid conduits. A controller is configured to receive a signal representative of the input parameter state; process an actuator state through a flow model of the thermal system to obtain an existing flow in the fluid conduits; process the existing flow through a thermal model of the thermal system to determine an input that reduces an error between a desired parameter state and the input parameter state; process the input through an inverse flow model to convert the input to a desired actuator state; and position the actuator in the desired actuator state.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DETERMING THERMAL STATE
Systems and methods are provided for determining a temperature of a thermal system that includes fluid conduits. A sensor monitors a current state of the temperature. A coolant pump for a vehicle includes an impeller mounted at one side of a shaft and configured to pump a coolant, a pulley mounted at the other side of the shaft and configured to receive torque, a pump housing including an inlet into which the coolant inflows and an outlet of which the coolant flows out, a slider disposed to be movable in a longitudinal direction of the shaft so as to selectively block or open the outlet and a driver configured to move the slider, where a passage which supplies the coolant to at least one heat exchange element is formed on the pump housing.

A control method for a cooling system includes determining, by the controller, whether the output signal of the ambient temperature sensor satisfies a predetermined an ambient low temperature driving condition, determining, by the controller, whether the output signal of the first coolant temperature sensor satisfies a predetermined first low temperature driving condition when the output signal of the ambient temperature sensor satisfies the predetermined the ambient low temperature driving condition and controlling, by the controller, the operation of the coolant control valve unit to open the first coolant passage and the third coolant passage and to close the second coolant passage when the output signal of the first coolant temperature sensor satisfies the predetermined first low temperature driving condition.
ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM
An engine cooling system for increasing and controlling a wall temperature of a cylinder head is provided. The cooling system includes a radiator passage that passes through a radiator, a radiator-bypass passage that bypasses the radiator, a first fluid temperature sensor that acquires a fluid temperature of an engine coolant flowing through a bore passage for cooling a cylinder, a second fluid temperature sensor that acquires the fluid temperature of the engine coolant flowing through a head passage for cooling a cylinder head, a thermostat valve arranged in the radiator passage, a flow rate regulator valve arranged in the radiator-bypass passage, and an electronic control unit (ECU). While controlling the thermostat valve on the basis of a detection result of the first fluid temperature sensor, the ECU controls the flow rate regulator valve on the basis of a detection result of the second fluid temperature sensor.
Control method of cooling system
A control method for a cooling system is provided. The system includes a vehicle operation state detecting portion having an ambient temperature sensor, first and second coolant temperature sensors, a coolant control valve unit that adjusts opening rates of first, second, and third coolant passages and a controller. The method includes determining whether an output signal of the ambient temperature sensor satisfies a predetermined an ambient low temperature driving condition and whether an output signal of the first coolant temperature sensor satisfies a predetermined first low temperature driving condition when the output signal of the ambient temperature sensor satisfies the predetermined the ambient low temperature driving condition. The coolant control valve unit opens the first and coolant passages and closes the second coolant passage when the output signal of the first coolant temperature sensor satisfies the predetermined first low temperature driving condition.
