Methods and systems are provided for a turbocharger. In one example, the turbocharger comprises an injector configured to inject a medium therein, wherein the injector is configured to inject the medium toward a turbine of the turbocharger. The turbocharger further comprising a turbine driven by exhaust gases.

TURBINE-COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY AND METHOD

A method and a turbine-compressor assembly of a system having a turbine-compressor device fluidly coupled with a heat source, a compressor, and a turbine via plural valves. A power device may be coupled with the turbine-compressor device. A controller may control operation of the plural valves to control movement of fluids within the assembly to selectively switch between the turbine-compressor device operating in one of plural modes. In a turbine mode of operation, the turbine-compressor device may generate electrical power and direct the electrical power to the power device. In a compressor mode of operation, the turbine-compressor device may receive electrical power from the power device to consume the electrical power.

HEALTH CONSCIOUS CONTROLLER

New and/or alternative approaches to physical plant performance control that can account for the health of the physical plant. In one example, a control algorithm is enhanced by inclusion of terms related to optimized performance and terms related to physical plant health. In another example, a performance optimized control solution is determined, a maximum allowed deviation is defined, and a final solution for physical plant control is determined taking into account health factors to minimize health impacts within the maximum allowed deviation from optimized performance, using for example a two-stage analysis. Another example uses a two level system with a low level controller and a supervisory controller, in which the supervisory controller observes health impacts of ongoing operations managed by the low level controller, and modifies one or more parameters used by the low level controller.

Axial thrust loading mitigation in a turbocharger

Methods and systems are provided for a turbocharger system to reduce and balance axial thrust load on the turbine shaft and the associated bearing system and sealing. In one example, a partial back plate compressor may be used in combination with an axial turbine to reduce axial thrust load and to improve turbocharger transient response time. In another example, a regenerative turbocharger system with back-to-back turbo pump may be used to reduce and balance axial thrust load.

Method for operating a combustion engine system

The present disclosure relates to a combustion engine system and a method of operation thereof. The combustion engine system includes a pollutant conversion system and an exhaust gas turbocharger that includes a variable turbine geometry and a waste gate valve. The variable turbine geometry includes adjustable guide elements surrounding the turbine wheel in a circumferential direction and are arranged to define an overall cross-section in their respective position for the exhaust gas. In a control mode where the pollutant conversion system comprises a temperature above a threshold temperature, the guide elements are adjusted such that the overall cross-section is between a control minimum value and a control maximum value. In a heat-up mode at temperatures of the pollutant conversion system below the threshold temperature, the guide elements are moved to a heat-up position where the overall cross-section is smaller than the control minimum value.
