System and method for controlling engine air flow

Methods and systems for operating an engine during conditions where ambient humidity changes over time are presented. In one non-limiting example, an engine air flow limit is adjusted to increase engine air flow during high humidity conditions such that an engine may provide equivalent torque output during the high humidity conditions as compared to when the engine is operated during low humidity conditions.

Fuel vapor blocking valve control

Methods and systems for controlling and reducing current consumption of a vapor blocking valve are disclosed. In one example, current supplied to the vapor blocking valve is adjusted proportionately to fuel tank pressure to compensate for fuel tank pressure acting on the vapor blocking valve. Vapor blocking valve current is adjusted to reduce current consumption.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, AND DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

According to a device and a method for controlling an internal combustion engine, a control device (38) enables controllability of the internal combustion engine to be improved by preventing surging from occurring upon starting or stopping of the internal combustion engine, by opening a relief valve (28) as a turbine rotational speed reaches a surging rotational speed when the control device (38) causes a motor generator (32) to assist in rotation of the turbocharger (12) upon starting of a diesel engine body (11).

SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR IMPROVING FUEL ECONOMY

Methods and systems are provided for controlling engine operation in a hybrid vehicle, where the vehicle engine comprises one or more cylinders dedicated to recirculating exhaust to the intake manifold. In one example, if an engine load decreases below a level where dedicated exhaust gas recirculation may lead to combustion stability issues, engine load may be increased above the demanded load and the excess power used to charge a system battery, or if the battery state of charge is above a threshold, the engine may be shut down and the vehicle propelled via battery power. In this way, fuel economy and combustion stability issues may be improved, NOx emissions reduced, and costs for implementation of dedicated exhaust gas recirculation decreased.

Engine system with intake bypass device

An object is to provide an engine system including an intake bypass device whereby it is possible to expand the operation range of a compressor without causing the output of a turbine to become insufficient. An engine system includes an intake bypass device including a bypass channel connecting a downstream side of a compressor of a turbocharger in an intake channel and an upstream side of a turbine of the turbocharger in an exhaust channel, a bypass valve disposed in the bypass channel and configured to control a flow of compressed intake air in the bypass channel, and a heating unit for heating the compressed intake air flowing through the bypass channel.

Method and system for fuel vapor management

Methods and systems are provided for improving the efficiency of canister purge completion. Based on engine operating conditions, a canister is purged to a compressor inlet or a throttle outlet. During purging conditions, as canister loads change, a purge flow through the canister is varied so that a fixed preselected portion of total engine fueling is delivered as fuel vapors.
