Method and system for estimating damage in an internal combustion engine

A method for estimating damage of a component of an internal combustion engine includes receiving a fuel rate signal indicative of a fuel rate of the internal combustion engine and estimating a temperature value of the component of the internal combustion engine based on at least the received fuel rate signal. The method also includes estimating an incremental amount of damage of the component of the internal combustion engine based on the estimated temperature value of the component of the internal combustion engine, updating a cumulative amount of damage of the component of the internal combustion engine based on the estimated incremental amount of damage, and outputting a notification based on at least the cumulative amount of damage of the component of the internal combustion engine.

A method for estimating wear of at least one component of an internal combustion engine includes receiving sensor information and fuel commands indicative of an amount of fuel supplied to at least one combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine and determining an incremental increase in an amount of wear of at least one component of the internal combustion engine based on at least the sensor information and the fuel commands. The method also includes determining an updated amount of wear based on the incremental increase in the amount of wear, and outputting a notification indicative of the updated amount of wear.

SYSTEMS, METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR WET STACK RESIDUE MITIGATION

An intelligent electronic device (IED) may monitor wet stack residue buildup of a diesel engine. Once the wet stack residue accumulates to a certain amount, the IED may perform a mitigation procedure. Additionally, tracking wet stack residue buildup may allow an IED to attempt to prevent or reduce accumulation of the wet stack residue. The IED may track an operating power level of the diesel engine to estimate the rate of residue buildup.

GRADING TOOL FOR MEASURING A ROCKER ARM AND ROCKER ARM GRADING SYSTEM

A rocker arm grading system can comprise a grading tool. The grading tool can be used with a rocker arm to measure aspects of the rocker arm and determine a resulting valve lift. The grading tool can comprise a rocker arm jig comprising a pivot peg and a valve peg. A cam jig can comprise a cam arm. A cam pin can be mounted in the cam arm. A rocker arm can be removably mounted to the rocker arm jig. The rocker arm can comprise a radius on a bearing surface. A cam edge of the cam pin can press against the bearing surface. At least one measuring device comprising a wavelength emitting device paired with a wavelength detecting device can be configured to measure the radius of the bearing surface with respect to the pivot peg.

Abnormality diagnosis device for in-cylinder pressure sensor

An abnormality diagnosis device of an in-cylinder pressure sensor is provided. The device carries out a performance determination in which a performance quality of the sensor is determined based on an electric signal inputted from the sensor. The device carries out a first determination in which the performance determination is performed at a given timing, a performance recovery in which a given deposit removal control is executed in which a deposit accumulating inside the combustion chamber is removed when the performance quality of the in-cylinder pressure sensor is determined to fall below a given reference value, and a second determination in which the performance determination is carried out again after the performance recovery. In the second determination, the in-cylinder pressure sensor is diagnosed as abnormal when the performance quality of the sensor is determined to fall below the given reference value.

Standby generator including multiple exercise cycles with ambient temperature control

A method and system for exercising a standby generator is disclosed. The standby generator can be exercised in at least two different exercise cycles, including an express exercise cycle and an extended exercise cycle. The system and method operates the generator for an express exercise cycle having a first duration when the ambient temperature at or near the standby generator exceeds a minimum threshold temperature. If the ambient temperature does not exceed the minimum threshold temperature, the express exercise cycle does not begin. In addition to the express exercise cycle, the engine of the standby generator is started and run for an extended exercise cycle having a duration that exceeds the duration of the express exercise cycle. The extended exercise cycles are separated by a first interval while the express exercise cycles are separated by a second interval, where the first interval is longer than the second interval.

Prognostic torsional damper damage determination in machine system

Prognostically warning of damper damage in a machine system includes monitoring a machine operating parameter linked with torsional loads on a crankshaft, and a temperature parameter. The prognostic warning strategy also includes populating an operating history of a machine system based on the monitored parameters, calculating a damper damage term based on the operating history, and triggering a damper damage warning where the damper damage term exceeds a threshold.
