RAPID ASSISTANCE DEVICE FOR A FREE TURBINE ENGINE OF AN AIRCRAFT

The rapid assistance device applies to a free turbine engine of an aircraft having at least a first free turbine engine provided with a gas generator and associated with an electrical machine capable of operating both as a starter and as a generator, the first engine being capable of being put into a standby mode or into an unwanted shut-down mode, the electrical machine being powered from on on-board electrical energy power supply network. The device further includes at least one electrical energy storage member adapted to be electrically connected to the electrical machine associated with the first engine in order to provide a burst of assistance to the gas generator of that engine. The electrical energy storage member constitutes a non-rechargeable “primary” energy storage member that can be used once only. The device includes a system for activating the electrical energy storage member and a device for coupling the electrical energy storage member with an electrical power supply system of the electrical machine.

MICRO GAS TURBINE SYSTEM

A disclosed micro gas turbine system includes a micro gas turbine apparatus and an extracting cycle apparatus. The micro gas turbine apparatus includes a first compressor, a burner, and a first turbine. The first turbine expands a combustion gas generated by the burner. The extracting cycle apparatus includes a second compressor and a second turbine. The second compressor receives a flow of extracted air that is generated by extracting a part of a working fluid discharged from the first compressor. The second turbine expands the working fluid discharged from the second compressor. The working fluid discharged from the second turbine cools down the first turbine.

Geared turbine engine with relatively lightweight propulsor module

An example gas turbine engine includes a propulsor assembly including at least a fan module and a fan drive turbine module; a gas generator assembly including at least a compressor section, a combustor in fluid communication with the compressor section, and a turbine in fluid communication with the combustor; and a geared architecture driven by the fan drive turbine module for rotating a fan of the fan module. A weight of the fan module and the fan drive turbine module is less than about 40% of a total weight of a gas turbine engine.

Gas turbine engine with embedded distributed fans

An aircraft body comprises a support structure. A gas turbine engine comprises a gas generator having at least one compressor rotor, at least one gas generator turbine rotor, and a combustion section. A fan drive turbine is positioned downstream of at least one gas generator turbine rotor, and is configured to drive a shaft. The shaft engages gears to drive a plurality of fan rotors. The gas turbine engine is embedded into the support structure such that there is an inlet leading through the support structure to the fan rotors to deliver air to the fan rotors. A gas turbine engine is also disclosed.
