An air inlet deflector for a structure having an air inlet. The deflector may be retractable within the structure, may be integrally formed with the structure, and may prevent the structure from ingesting foreign matter, such as birds. The deflector may include a series of ribs, spokes, or vanes that may vary in width and/or thickness from fore to aft, and/or may be curvilinear in one or more planes of view, and/or may serve double duty as inlet vanes for redirecting inlet air.

The present application describes a gas turbine inlet air system for providing a flow of air to a compressor. The gas turbine inlet air system may include an inlet air water cooling system positioned upstream of the compressor for cooling the flow of air with a flow of water and a moisture detection system positioned downstream of the inlet air water cooling system to detect if droplets of the flow of water pass beyond the inlet air water cooling system in the flow of air towards the compressor.
Method and apparatus for an engine inlet for a ram-air system with an icing bypass
An aircraft includes a fuselage and an engine housed in the fuselage. A ram-air engine inlet is formed on an exterior of the fuselage. The ram-air engine inlet is defined, at least in part, by a cowling door. The cowling door is moveable between a closed position and an open position. An intake duct fluidly couples the ram-air engine inlet to the engine. A filter is disposed across the intake duct. A bypass duct is formed in the ram-air engine inlet aft of the intake duct. The bypass duct is operable to be selectively opened and closed.

Internally Heated Engine Inlet Screen for Aircraft Engines
An apparatus for providing foreign object debris protection and anti-icing capabilities to an air intake of an aircraft engine. The apparatus includes a frame having at least a portion configured to conduct fluids. A tube is positioned such that different portions of the frame are fluidly connected. There is a discharge outlet defined within the frame that is configured to discharge fluids from the frame into the air intake. An inlet is defined within the frame and is fluidly connected to a compressor section of the aircraft engine. In this manner, air from the compressor section of the aircraft engine can flow through the inlet, through the tube, and through the discharge outlet, to return to the compressor section of the aircraft engine.

Compressor particle separator for gas turbine engine
A particle separator associated with a compressor section of a gas turbine engine includes a duct that defines a fluid flow path from a diffuser to a deswirl section. The duct includes a curved portion between an outlet of the diffuser and an inlet of the deswirl section. The curved portion is configured to have at least one low velocity region and a high velocity region. The particle separator includes at least one cluster of inlet passages defined at the at least one low velocity region. The particle separator includes a scavenge plenum coupled to the duct and in fluid communication with the at least one cluster of inlet passages. At least one outlet slot is defined through the duct downstream of the at least one cluster of inlet passages in the high velocity region and is in fluid communication with the scavenge plenum.
