Gas turbine engine with transcritical vapor cycle cooling
A gas turbine engine has a compressor section, a combustor, and a turbine section. An associated fluid is to be cooled and an associated fluid is to be heated. A transcritical vapor cycle heats the fluid to be heated, and cools the fluid to be cooled. The transcritical vapor cycle includes a gas cooler in which the fluid to be heated is heated by a refrigerant in the transcritical vapor cycle. An evaporator heat exchanger at which the fluid to be cooled is cooled by the refrigerant in the transcritical vapor cycle. A compressor upstream of the gas cooler compresses the refrigerant to a pressure above a critical point for the refrigerant. An expansion device expands the refrigerant downstream of the gas cooler, with the evaporator heat exchanger being downstream of the expansion device, and such that the refrigerant passing through the gas cooler to heat the fluid to be heated is generally above the critical point.

Fuel/air supply device
A fuel/air supply device including a fuel supply arrangement designed to convey fuel to a fuel outlet of the fuel/air supply device, a primary air supply arrangement designed to convey air to an air outlet of the fuel/air supply device, and a secondary air supply arrangement connecting the primary air supply arrangement to the fuel supply arrangement at a position upstream of a fuel compressor that is included in the fuel supply arrangement. The secondary air supply arrangement includes an air conduit that has a restricted portion for defining a relatively small air passage in the air conduit, and can be used for realizing a fuel/air mixture of low calorific value if so desired on the basis of a supply of air to the fuel without needing complex control measures.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE OF OIL USED TO ANTI-ICE A GAS TURBINE PROPULSION ENGINE
A system and method of increasing the temperature of oil that is used to anti-ice a gas turbine propulsion engine includes supplying oil from an oil supply system to an anti-ice oil circulation system that is disposed within the front frame of the gas turbine propulsion engine, and selectively injecting compressed air from the gas turbine propulsion engine into the oil supply system.

Integrated chemical looping combustion system and method for power generation and carbon dioxide capture
A chemical looping combustion (CLC) based power generation, particularly using liquid fuel, ensures substantially complete fuel combustion and provides electrical efficiency without exposing metal oxide based oxygen carrier to high temperature redox process. An integrated fuel gasification (reforming)-CLC-followed by power generation model is provided involving (i) a gasification island, (ii) CLC island, (iii) heat recovery unit, and (iv) power generation system. To improve electrical efficiency, a fraction of the gasified fuel may be directly fed, or bypass the CLC, to a combustor upstream of one or more gas turbines. This splitting approach ensures higher temperature (efficiency) in the gas turbine inlet. The inert mass ratio, air flow rate to the oxidation reactor, and pressure of the system may be tailored to affect the performance of the integrated CLC system and process.

Heat exchanger with active buffer layer
Heat exchangers, heat exchanger systems, and hypersonic vehicles are provided. For example, a heat exchanger is provided that comprises a first chamber for receipt of a flow of cool fluid and a second chamber for receipt of a flow of hot fluid. The heat exchanger further comprises a buffer fluid flowpath for circulation of a buffer fluid therethrough. The buffer fluid circulates within the buffer fluid flowpath disposed between the first chamber and the second chamber to transfer heat from the hot fluid to the cool fluid. In certain embodiments, a hypersonic vehicle comprises such a heat exchanger, and the cool fluid is cryogenic or near-cryogenic fuel of the hypersonic vehicle and the hot fluid is engine bleed air from a hypersonic propulsion engine of the vehicle.
VEHICLE WITH ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM
A method for energy conversion for a vehicle is provided. The method including extracting a flow of compressed fluid from a compressor section of a propulsion system; flowing the flow of compressed fluid to a turbine operably coupled to a driveshaft, in which the driveshaft is operably coupled to a load device; expanding the flow of compressed fluid through the turbine to generate an output torque at the driveshaft to operate the load device; and flowing the expanded flow of compressed fluid from the turbine to thermal communication with a thermal load.
