Linkage between an auxiliary motion source and a main motion load path in an internal combustion engine

In an internal combustion engine, a linkage is provided between an auxiliary motion source and a main motion load path, such that motions received by the linkage from the auxiliary motion source result in provision of a first force to at least one engine valve and a second force to the main motion load path in a direction toward a main motion source. Where an automatic lash adjuster is associated with the main motion load path, the second force may be selected to aid in the control of lash adjustments made by the automatic lash adjuster. In various embodiments, the linkage may be embodied in an mechanical linkage, whereas in other embodiments, an hydraulic linkage may be employed. The linkage may be incorporated into, or otherwise cooperate, a valve bridge or a rocker arm.

Paraffin actuated diaphragm valve

A valve includes a valve housing defining a fluid flowpath therethrough, a valve element located in the valve housing and movable in the fluid flowpath to regulate a fluid flow therethrough, and a valve actuator operably connected to the valve element to urge movement of the valve element in the fluid flowpath. The valve actuator includes an actuator housing, a volume of paraffin located in the housing, and an actuator rod located in the actuator housing and operably connected to the valve element, such that phase change of the paraffin urges movement of the actuator rod between a first position and a second position, thereby moving the valve element between a retracted position and an extended position.

System and method for maintaining a temperature of an emission device

Methods and systems for maintaining a temperature of catalyst above a threshold temperature during vehicle braking and coasting is described. In one example, engine pumping work may be increased without increasing flow of cool fresh air through the engine's exhaust system to provide a desired level of engine braking. The net air flow through the engine may be reduced via activating a decompression actuator.

Rotary Valve

A rotary turbine bypass valve comprises a valve chamber and a valve rotor. The chamber is positioned at a junction of an inlet port, an outlet port and a bypass port. The inlet port is configured to receive exhaust gas, the outlet port is configured to fluidly communicate with a turbine inlet, and the bypass port is configured to fluidly communicate with an exhaust aftertreatment device.

The rotor comprises a first and second recess, the first recess defining a primary flow passage, the second recess defining a secondary flow passage. The rotor is rotatable between a first position in which the rotor substantially blocks exhaust gas flow through the bypass port and a second position in which the rotor permits such. The secondary flow passage is configured to selectively permit fluid communication between the inlet port and the bypass port when the primary flow passage is partially blocked.

EXHAUST-GAS FLAP DEVICE

An exhaust-gas flap device, especially for the exhaust-gas flow of an internal combustion engine, has a flap pipe and a flap plate that is supported, in the interior of the flap pipe, on a pivot shaft that is rotatable about a pivot axis. The exhaust-gas flap device further includes a pivoting drive for the pivot shaft with a drive element. A coupling unit couples the drive element to the pivot shaft for conjoint rotation about the pivot axis. Vibration-damping material is arranged in the region of the coupling unit.

An exhaust system for an internal combustion engine; the exhaust system comprises: at least one an exhaust duct, which originates from the internal combustion engine; at least one exhaust gas treatment device, which is arranged along the exhaust duct; and a silencing device, which is arranged along the exhaust duct downstream of the exhaust gas treatment device. The silencing device comprises a silencing valve, which intercepts the exhaust duct and is movable between a completely open position and a completely closed position. In the completely closed position, the silencing valve has a first free section for the passage of the exhaust gases having a first area other than zero, so that the exhaust gases can flow through the silencing valve even when the silencing valve is in the completely closed position.
