Method for synchronizing an internal combustion engine
The aim of the present invention is a method for synchronizing an engine comprising at least one movable piston of a four-stroke internal combustion engine, said method comprising a first step (e1) involving initializing a second memory space, a second step (e2) involving waiting for an edge on a fourth signal (CAM_TOT), a fourth step (e4) involving testing the value of a counter (CPT), an eighth step (e8) involving selecting the theoretical angular positions of the slots of the second signal (CAM_IN) relative to the edges of a first signal (CRK) and of the slots of a third signal (CAM_EX) relative to the edges of the first signal (CRK).
Port injection system for reduction of particulates from turbocharged direct injection gasoline engines
The present invention describes a fuel-management system for minimizing particulate emissions in turbocharged direct injection gasoline engines. The system optimizes the use of port fuel injection (PFI) in combination with direct injection (DI), particularly in cold start and other transient conditions. In the present invention, the use of these control systems together with other control systems for increasing the effectiveness of port fuel injector use and for reducing particulate emissions from turbocharged direct injection engines is described. Particular attention is given to reducing particulate emissions that occur during cold start and transient conditions since a substantial fraction of the particulate emissions during a drive cycle occur at these times. Further optimization of the fuel management system for these conditions is important for reducing drive cycle emissions.
Combustion engine
A four-stroke internal combustion engine comprising an inlet cam configured to open and close an inlet valve, a No. 1 exhaust cam configured to open and close an exhaust valve, a No. 2 exhaust cam configured to open and close the same exhaust valve, wherein the No. 2 exhaust cam is angularly adjustable relative to the No. 1 exhaust cam in response to input from an operator, so that the No. 2 exhaust cam is able to be selectively engaged; wherein the No. 1 exhaust cam is configured to open and close the exhaust valve during the compression stroke, so that a selected quantity of air drawn in during the intake stroke is expelled during the compression stroke; and wherein the No. 2 exhaust cam is configured to optionally close the exhaust valve when engaged.
Multiple cylinder engine
An internal combustion engine may include a first piston reciprocatingly disposed in a first cylinder, a combustion chamber fluidly coupled with the first cylinder, and an ignition source at least partially disposed within the combustion chamber. An intake valve may provide selective fluid communication between an intake system and the combustion chamber, and an exhaust valve may provide selective fluid communication between an exhaust system and the combustion chamber. A second piston may be reciprocatingly disposed within a second cylinder. An inlet associated with the second cylinder may be fluidly coupled with the intake system, and an outlet may be fluidly coupled with one or more of the first cylinder and the combustion chamber. A crankshaft may be coupled with the first piston and the second piston for rotational motion associated with reciprocating movement of the first piston and the second piston.
CONTROLLER AND CONTROL METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
To provide a controller and a control method for internal combustion engine which can suppress the increase in the calculation processing load for determining occurrence of the mechanical noise and occurrence of the knocking with good accuracy even when the mechanical noise occurs. When the maximum value of the strength of the component of the second frequency band in the comparison period exceeds the maximum value of the strength of the component of the first frequency band, a controller for internal combustion engine performs a second side stop determination processing that determine whether the knocking occurred, based on the strength of the component of the first frequency band, without using the strength of the component of the second frequency band.
Methods and system for preparing an engine for starting
Systems and methods for preparing an engine for a cold start are described. In one example, the air is injected into one or more pre-chambers of engine cylinders in response to an engine start request so that one or more cylinders may be heated before the engine is started. The engine may or may not be rotated while air is being injected to pre-chambers of engine cylinders.
Method and system for preparing an engine for starting
Methods and systems are provided for heating a catalyst via a catalyst heater are presented. In one example, the catalyst may be heated to provide a minimum amount of time for the catalyst to reach a threshold temperature. In another example, the catalyst heater may be heated to minimize an amount of power that is used to heat the catalyst.
Method for Starting an Internal Combustion Engine of a Motor Vehicle, and Motor Vehicle Comprising an Internal Combustion Engine
A method for starting an internal combustion engine and a motor vehicle are provided. The internal combustion engine includes a plurality of cylinders. To start the internal combustion engine while deactivated, a predefined amount of working gas is introduced into the cylinder that fires first. A crankshaft of the internal combustion engine is driven by an electric motor and by the movement of a piston coupled to the crankshaft and associated with the cylinder that fires first to introduce the predefined amount of working gas. Subsequently, the internal combustion engine is started by the ignition of a mixture including the predefined amount of working gas and a predefined amount of fuel inside the cylinder that fires first.
Split cycle engine
A split cycle internal combustion engine includes a combustion cylinder accommodating a combustion piston and a compression cylinder accommodating a compression piston. The engine also includes a controller arranged to receive an indication of a parameter associated with the combustion cylinder and/or a fluid associated therewith and to control an exhaust valve of the combustion cylinder in dependence on the indicated parameter to cause the exhaust valve to close during the return stroke of the combustion piston, before the combustion piston has reached its top dead centre position (TDC), when the indicated parameter is less than a target value for the parameter; and close on completion of the return stroke of the combustion piston, as the combustion piston reaches its top dead centre position (TDC), when the indicated parameter is equal to or greater than the target value for the parameter.
ENGINE CONTROL APPARATUS
If an engine coolant temperature is equal to or lower than a first low-temperature determination value and a battery temperature is equal to or lower than a second low-temperature determination value when a request to start up an engine is made, the advancement driving of a variable valve operating mechanism is first started. Then, when an advancement amount of the variable valve operating mechanism later becomes equal to or larger than a prescribed startup start determination value, is started.
