Methods and systems are provided for introducing a charge motion to a cylinder via a protrusion system coupled to an intake port of an engine. In one example, a system may include positioning a tongue from inside a spring-loaded casing to extend into air intake runner, generating desired tumble and swirl along an intake port proximate to an engine cylinder.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING ENGINE TORQUE WHILE DEACTIVATING ENGINE CYLINDERS

Systems and methods for operating an engine with deactivating and non-deactivating valves are presented. In one example, a position of one or more volumetric efficiency control devices is changed in response to a request to deactivate one or more engine cylinders while at the same time the engine central throttle is adjusted. Spark timing may also be adjusted if engine air flow deviates from a desired engine air flow.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IMPROVING CYLINDER DEACTIVATION

Systems and methods for operating an engine with deactivating and non-deactivating valves are presented. In one example, estimates of engine fuel consumption for operating the engine with a plurality of cylinder modes or patterns while a transmission is engaged in different gears are determined and are used as a basis for deactivating engine cylinders.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE CONTROL

Systems and methods for operating an engine with deactivating and non-deactivating valves are presented. In one example, engine volumetric efficiency actuators are adjusted in response to a request to activate engine cylinders so that engine intake manifold pressure is drawn down quickly toward its normal state at the engine's present speed and torque.

Engine system

An engine system is provided, which includes an engine, a swirl control valve, and a controller. The engine includes a cylinder, a piston, and a fuel injection valve provided incliningly with respect to an axial direction of the piston and configured to directly inject fuel into the cylinder. The swirl control valve is provided inside an intake passage and generates a swirl flow inside the cylinder at least when the valve closes. When an engine load is below a given threshold, the controller controls the swirl control valve to close, and controls the fuel injection valve to inject fuel during an intake stroke. While the engine load is below the threshold, at a fixed engine speed, the controller controls to advance a fuel injection timing when the engine load is at a first load, compared with at a second load higher than the first load.

Engine system

An engine system is provided, which includes an engine, a swirl control valve, an EGR passage, an EGR gas adjusting mechanism, and a controller. The engine includes a cylinder, a piston, and a fuel injection valve. The swirl control valve is provided inside an intake passage and generates a swirl flow inside the cylinder when it closes. When an engine load is at or below a given threshold, the controller controls the swirl control valve to close. While the engine load is the threshold or below, the controller controls the EGR gas adjusting mechanism such that, at a fixed engine speed, an increase rate of an EGR gas amount with respect to an increase in the engine load is lower in a first load range than in a second load range, the first load range being on a higher load side of the second load range and including the threshold.

Intake system for vehicle

An intake system for a vehicle may include an intake manifold having an internal space divided into a first chamber and a second chamber by a partition wall, in which intake air flows into the first chamber through a charging path and is then discharged to a portion of an intake port connected to the intake manifold; and intake air flows into the second chamber through a bypass path bypassing charger and is then discharged to another portion of the intake port.

Method and system for an engine variable charge motion system

Methods and systems are provided for introducing a charge motion to a cylinder via a bladder in an intake manifold runner. In one example, a system may include positioning a bladder in an intake port proximate to a cylinder.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

An object is to enable stable diesel combustion in an internal combustion engine using a fuel having a relatively high self-ignition temperature. In the internal combustion engine, pre-injection and ignition of pre-spray fuel are performed, and thereafter main injection is performed to cause a portion of main-injected fuel to be burned by diffusion combustion. Injection ports of a fuel injection valve are provided in such a way that the quantity of the main injected fuel injected to a predetermined region defined by a predetermined angle equal to or smaller than 90 degrees about the fuel injection valve from the location of an ignition device in the direction of rotation of the swirl is relatively small.

AIR INTAKE STRUCTURE FOR VEHICLE ENGINE

An air intake structure for a vehicle engine includes: a variable flap rotatably provided in an intake air passage so as to control a cross-sectional area of intake air flow; a port plate provided to a downstream of the variable flap, and generating displacement in cooperation with the variable flap; a driving unit supplying a driving force for generating displacement of both the variable flap and the port plate; and a controller determining a rotation angle of the variable flap in accordance with an operating range of an engine, and controlling the rotation angle of the variable flap by driving the driving unit.
