Controller for variable valve mechanism
An internal combustion engine is provided with a plurality of cylinders, air intake valves provided to each of the cylinders, and a variable valve actuation mechanism for varying the valve actuation of the air intake valves. A motor drives the variable valve actuation mechanism. A motor controller controls the motor. The internal combustion engine is capable of operating in a cylinder deactivation mode, in which the air intake valves of some of the cylinders are kept shut. When the internal combustion engine is reactivated from the cylinder deactivation mode, the motor controller executes an air intake amount correction process, in which the opening duration of the air intake valves is temporarily increased, thereby increasing the amount of air taken in by operating cylinder for which the air intake valves have been opened or closed even during the cylinder deactivation mode.
Internal Combustion Engine Control Device
Provided is an internal combustion engine control device capable of appropriately correcting a flow rate of EGR gas. Therefore, an internal combustion engine control device 20 includes moisture amount calculation units 301 and 302, a dew condensation calculation unit 303, and an EGR correction unit 304. The moisture amount calculation unit 301 calculates a total moisture amount contained in the mixed gas. The dew condensation calculation unit 303 calculates a dew condensation generation amount WQcon in an intercooler based on the total moisture amount. The EGR correction unit 304 corrects a flow rate of the EGR gas based on the dew condensation generation amount WQcon.
Method for controlling an internal combustion engine
The disclosure relates to a method for controlling an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine includes a cylinder and a piston, which runs in the cylinder, together delimiting a working chamber. The working chamber is supplied with fresh air from an intake section via an inlet valve and is connected to an exhaust manifold via exhaust valves. The internal combustion engine includes a variable valve actuation system for the actuation of the inlet valves, controlling the opening time and/or the closing time and/or the lift. A strategy for shutting down the internal combustion engine includes controlling the inlet valves of individual or all working chambers in such a way that the transfer of fresh air from the intake section to the exhaust manifold is reduced or avoided and that the drag torque of the intake combustion engine is reduced.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING LOW-PRESSURE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM FOR FREEZING PREVENTION
An apparatus for controlling a low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (LP-EGR) system for freezing prevention includes an intake air temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of intake air introduced from outside, at least one engine driving sensor used to diagnose and learn a driving state of an engine, the LP-EGR system configured such that at least a portion of exhaust gas flows into the LP-EGR system as intake air, and a controller configured to perform diagnosis and learning of the driving state of the engine using the at least one engine driving sensor or to operate the LP-EGR system depending on the temperature of the intake air measured by the intake air temperature sensor when coasting conditions of a vehicle are satisfied.
Method for controlling a compression release brake mechanism in a combustion engine
A method is disclosed for controlling a compression release brake mechanism in a combustion engine. The method comprises: determining a desired exhaust manifold gas pressure level; continuously monitoring a set of control parameters, including at least two of cylinder pressure, exhaust manifold pressure, turbine speed and turbine expansion ratio; controlling a brake pressure valve and a variable turbine geometry by said control parameters, to drive one of the control parameters to a set first maximum level; and, while maintaining the first of the set of control parameters at the set first maximum level, controlling an exhaust gas recirculation valve by said control parameters in a closed loop to allow exhaust gas to recirculate towards an air inlet system while driving a second of the set of control parameters to a set second maximum level.
ONLINE MONITORING AND DIAGNOSTICS IN VEHICLE POWERTRAINS
Methods and systems for calculating a plurality of aging factors in a system operating an engine. The calculated aging factors may include one or more of fuel injector drift, exhaust gas recirculation valve obstruction, and mass air flow sensor bias. Mass flow throughout the system, and pressures and temperatures within the system, are observed in an approach that relies on mass preservation concepts to estimate drift, obstruction and bias estimates.
Hydrogen Opposed-Piston Engine
An opposed-piston engine is configured to use hydrogen fuel. The opposed-piston engine has at least one cylinder and a pair of pistons disposed for opposed motion in a bore of the cylinder. Hydrogen fuel is directly side-injected into the cylinder in a compression stroke of the opposed-piston engine, mixed with charge air in the cylinder, and auto-ignited in a combustion chamber formed in the cylinder between the pistons during the compression stroke. A method of operating the hydrogen opposed-piston engine includes switching between a first ignition mode using an externally-generated ignition impulse to ignite the mixture of hydrogen fuel and charge air, and a second ignition mode using compression to ignite the mixture.

One embodiment is a system comprising an engine including a dedicated EGR cylinder configured to provide EGR to the engine via an EGR loop, a non-dedicated cylinder, a plurality of injectors structured to inject fuel into the dedicated EGR cylinder and the non-dedicated EGR cylinder, and an electronic control system operatively coupled with the fueling system and the ignition system. The electronic control system is configured to evaluate engine operating parameters including an engine load and an engine speed. The electronic control system is responsive to variation of the engine operating parameters to control operation of the fueling system to vary combustion in the at least one dedicated cylinder between rich of stoichiometric and stoichiometric.
ENGINE AND EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM
A system for coordinated control of an engine and associated components over various engine-modes of operation. The system may include an engine (e.g., a diesel engine), one or more components controllable to adjust operation of the diesel engine, and a system controller. The system controller may be connected to the engine and the one or more components. The system controller may include a supervisory controller and one or more component controllers. The supervisory controller may receive system control variable set points and coordinate component control variable set points for the components to achieve the system control variable set points. The component controllers may control operation of the components to achieve the control variable set points for the components by setting manipulated variable set points for the components based on the component control variable set points and a model based non-linear dynamic inversion.
