EXHAUST VALVE FAILURE DIAGNOSTICS AND MANAGEMENT
20230220810 · 2023-07-13 ·

A method of operating an engine is provided. An exhaust valve actuation fault is detected for a first exhaust valve associated with a first cylinder during a first working cycle. In response to the detection of the exhaust valve actuation fault, fueling to at least the first cylinder is cut off. Actuation of the first exhaust valve is attempted in second working cycles that follow the first working cycle, wherein the second working cycles are not fueled. Whether or not the first exhaust valve actuated properly during the second working cycles is determined. Operation of the first cylinder is resumed when it is determined that the first exhaust valve actuated properly. Operation of the first cylinder is not resumed when it is determined that the first exhaust valve did not actuate properly.

Methods and systems for fuel injector balancing

Load drive circuit and load drive system

With a simple configuration, responsiveness between an electronic control unit and a load drive circuit is monitored without deteriorating characteristics of the load drive circuit. The load drive circuit according to the present invention diagnoses an abnormality in responsiveness of a switch element that drives a load based on a drive command of the switch element and a signal at an output terminal of the switch element.

A large current flowing when energization by normal load drive control is performed at the time of a load short-circuit is prevented. A load drive device 100 includes drive switches 61 and 62 that turn on or off the current supplied from a power source to a load 70, a switch drive circuit 20 that transmits a drive signal to the drive switches 61 and 62 based on a control command from an arithmetic device 10, and a constant current source 40 that supplies the current to the load 70 without passing through the drive switches 61 and 62. Then, the switch drive circuit 20 performs control so as not to turn on either the drive switches 61 or 62 when the voltage between both ends of the load 70 becomes equal to or less than the determination value in a state where the drive switches 61 and 62 are turned off and in a state where the current is supplied from the constant current source 40 to the load 70.

Methods and systems are provided for balancing a plurality of fuel injectors. In one example, a method includes adjusting port-fuel injecting parameters in response to a learned direct injector fueling error.

Method To Estimate The Temperature Of An Electromagnetic Actuator

A method to estimate the temperature of an electromagnetic actuator, which entails a preliminary step in which to define a first threshold value for the current or for the voltage; and define a characteristic curve of the actuator family in the plane temperature/time needed to reach the threshold value; a step in which to carry out a reference measurement, in which, using the characteristic curve, a reference time needed by the electromagnetic actuator to reach the first threshold value is associated with a known reference temperature; and a step in which to carry out a series of measurements in which to determine the time needed by the electromagnetic actuator to reach the first threshold value, calculate the deviation between the time needed by the electromagnetic actuator to reach the first threshold value and the reference time; and determine the temperature of the electromagnetic actuator, using the characteristic curve, by associating the temperature of the electromagnetic actuator with the sum of the deviation and of the reference time.

A fuel delivery system for controlling an inlet pressure of a prime mover in a transport climate control system is provided. The fuel delivery system includes a fuel tank, a pressure regulator, a pump disposed downstream of the fuel tank, a first filter disposed downstream of the pump, and the prime mover disposed downstream of the first filter. The prime mover is located above the fuel tank in a vertical direction. The pump is configured to provide a first fuel flow through the first filter. The prime mover is configured to accept a first portion of the first fuel flow and is configured to provide a return fuel flow. The pressure regulator is disposed downstream of the first filter. The pressure regulator is configured to accept a second portion of the first fuel flow, and to accept a pressure of the return fuel flow as a reference pressure.

Hybrid vehicle and method of diagnosing abnormal condition of hybrid vehicle

In a hybrid vehicle, each of an engine and an MG1 is mechanically coupled to a drive wheel with a planetary gear being interposed. The planetary gear and an MG2 are configured such that motive power output from the planetary gear and motive power output from the MG2 are transmitted to the drive wheel as being combined. A controller makes WGV diagnosis for diagnosing whether or not a waste gate valve is normally controllable by issuing an instruction to a WGV actuator while the controller stops combustion in the engine and controls the MG1 and the MG2 in coordination to perform motoring of the engine during traveling of the hybrid vehicle.

Systems and methods for managing temperature of an electric machine of a hybrid electric vehicle

Methods and systems are provided for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle during conditions when a temperature of a motor/generator is increasing. In one example, a method is provided that adjusts engine speed as a function of motor/generator temperature while maintaining engine power output when driver demand wheel power is constant.

Systems and method for controlling auto-ignition

Methods and systems are provided for maintaining combustion stability in a multi-fuel engine. In one example, a system may include first and second fuel systems to deliver liquid and gaseous fuels, respectively, to at least one cylinder of the engine, and a controller. The controller may be configured to supply the gaseous fuel to the at least one cylinder, inject the liquid fuel to the at least one cylinder to compression ignite the liquid fuel and combust the gaseous fuel in the at least one cylinder, and retard an injection timing of the injection of the liquid fuel based on a measured parameter associated with auto-ignition of end gases subsequent to the compression-ignition of the liquid fuel.
