SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DIAGNOSING AN ENGINE

Methods and systems are provided for an engine. A condition of the engine may be diagnosed based on information provided by signals from a generator operationally connected to the engine and/or other signals associated with the engine. Different types of degradation may be distinguished based on discerning characteristics within the information. Thus, a degraded engine component may be identified in a manner that reduces service induced delay.

Particulate filter test system and method

A system for testing a particulate filter system includes a filter controller connected to the particulate filter system and a vehicular computer configured to determine at least one engine condition. The filter controller is configured to control a condition of a component of the particulate filter system and the vehicular computer is operatively connected to the filter controller to communicate therewith. The vehicular computer compares the condition of the component of the particulate filter system with the engine condition to determine whether the component of the particulate filter system is functioning properly.

A method for determining at least one injection parameter of an internal combustion engine, including the following steps: detecting a pressure profile in a time-resolved manner in an injection system of an internal combustion engine at least during an injection; providing a reference pressure profile for at least one operating point of the injection system; comparing the detected pressure profile with the reference pressure profile, and ascertaining at least one injection parameter as a function of the comparison.

METHOD AND SYSTEM TO CONTROL PROPULSION SYSTEMS HAVING SENSOR OR ACTUATOR DEGRADATION

A method to detect and mitigate sensor or actuator degradation in an automobile system includes: collecting a signal data output from at least one device which is outputting the signal data in response to monitored operational parameters of a motor vehicle system; analyzing patterns of the signal data compared to a signal data output from a nominal operating one of the at least one device using an artificial intelligence program; and identifying when the patterns of the signal data exceed a threshold level indicating the at least one sensor or actuator is operating in a degraded condition.

CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

A control device for an internal combustion engine includes a feel tank, a high pressure feel passage, a pressure increasing device, a switching device, a low pressure fuel passage, a temperature sensor, a fuel injector, and an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to determine that there is an abnormality in the switching device when a temperature measured by the temperature sensor when the pressure increase signal is output is not higher than a temperature measured by the temperature sensor when the pressure increase signal is not output. The electronic control unit is configured to stop fuel pressure increase by the pressure increasing device by stopping an output of the pressure increase signal regardless of the engine operation state when the electronic control unit determines that there is the abnormality in the switching device.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING REMAINING USEFUL LIFE FOR AN INJECTOR OF A RECIPROCATING ENGINE

A method and system for determining remaining useful life of an in-use injector of a reciprocating engine is disclosed. The method includes determining nozzle wear relationship data for different duty cycles of the in-use injector, and using the nozzle wear relationship data together with operating parameters for the reciprocating engine, and emission relationship data to determine actual emission levels for the in-use injector based on the wear relationship data and the emission relationship data. The method and system further include determining remaining useful life of the in-use injector based on actual emission levels and the nozzle wear relationship data; and controlling an operation of the reciprocating engine based on the actual emission levels.

Method to adjust an oil control valve actuation response time using cylinder valve diagnostics

A method to adjust an oil control valve actuation response time using cylinder valve diagnostic results includes commanding an engine cylinder to deactivate/reactive when conditions are met and then detecting if a deactivation/reactivation response time failure has occurred by analyzing the cylinder diagnostics results. If a predetermined number of failures are detected at the cylinder within a predetermined number of engine cycles then the engine controller operates to adjust the oil control valve response time to improve the response time accuracy.

System and method for diagnosing a variable displacement engine

Systems and methods for determining operation of a cylinder deactivating/reactivating device are disclosed. In one example, a direction of engine rotation is selected to maximize air flow through the engine while the engine is rotated without combusting air and fuel. Operation of one or more cylinder valve deactivating mechanisms is assessed while the engine is rotated without combusting air and fuel.

Systems and methods for a split exhaust engine system

Methods and systems are provided for operating a split exhaust engine system that provides blowthrough air and exhaust gas recirculation to an intake passage via a first exhaust manifold and exhaust gas to an exhaust passage via a second exhaust manifold. In one example, a first set of exhaust valves coupled to the first exhaust manifold may be operated at a different timing than a second set of exhaust valves coupled to the second exhaust manifold. Further, a position of a first valve positioned in a first passage coupled between the intake passage and the first exhaust manifold and/or a timing of the first set of exhaust valves may be diagnosed based on an output of a pressure sensor positioned in the first exhaust manifold.

An ECM determines a failure exist and a failure site in a control valve device from first and second failure diagnoses. In the first failure diagnosis, a failure is determined to have occurred if an opening amount that represents an absolute value of a difference between a detected opening amount and a target opening amount of a valve body is greater than a preset threshold when the target opening amount of the valve body is constant for a predetermined time. In the second failure diagnosis, a failure is determined to have occurred if an opening amount that represents the absolute value of the difference between the opening amount of the valve body when fully open or fully closed and the detected opening amount is greater than the preset threshold when a portion rotating integrally with the valve body has been pressed against a stopper continuously for a predetermined time.
