20190293016 · 2019-09-26 ·

Methods and systems are provided for calculating a fuel aging of fuel in a fuel tank. In one example, a method may include alerting a vehicle operator and/or adjusting engine operating parameters in response to a fuel aging being greater than a threshold aging.

METHOD OF MANAGING A PROPULSION SYSTEM BASED ON HEALTH OF A LUBRICATION SYSTEM

A method and system of diagnosing a lubrication system of an engine includes determining a lubrication system fault and controlling an engine in response to the fault. The method is operative to first determine a poor state of health for a lubrication system, then determine an oil degradation or lube system fault. In response to a lube system fault, engine operation is altered in order to reduce the negative effects of the lube system fault such as increasing minimum idle speed in response to reduced oil pressure.

Engine system with inferential sensor

An engine system incorporating an engine, one or more sensors, and a controller. The controller may be connected to the one or more sensors and the engine. The one or more sensors may be configured to sense one or more parameters related to operation of the engine. The controller may incorporate an air-path state estimator configured to estimate one or more air-path state parameters in the engine based on values of one or more parameters sensed by the sensors. The controller may have an on-line and an off-line portion, where the on-line portion may incorporate the air-path state estimator and the off-line portion may configure and/or calibrate a model for the air-path state estimator.

Method and system for initiating regeneration of diesel particulate filters

A method and system for initiating regeneration of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) within a diesel engine system comprising the DPF, a data link connector (DLC), and an electronic control unit (ECU) such as an engine control unit includes an engine communication interface (ECI) device and a communication device that request and transmit DPF inhibit parameters that indicate whether initiation of regeneration of the DPF can be performed. The ECI device can comprise two connectors that are connectable to different types of DLC. The communication device can comprise a smart-phone. The ECI device can determine which DPF inhibit parameter are to be requested from the ECU and which vehicle communication protocol is required to communicate with the ECU. The communication device can receive the DPF inhibit parameters, determine whether initiation of regeneration of the DPF can be performed, and transmit a communication to request initiation of regeneration of the DPF.

A system includes an electronic fuel injection system of an engine, the electronic fuel injection system including an electronic governor control unit for controlling various functions of the engine.

FUEL MIXING OCCURRENCE DETECTION DEVICE AND FUEL MIXING OCCURRENCE DETECTION METHOD USING FUEL PROPERTY
20190257262 · 2019-08-22 ·

A fuel mixing occurrence detection device is provided. The device includes a fuel-type identification unit that identifies a type of fuel injected into a vehicle by comparing a fuel pump drive RPM for achieving target fuel pressure with a predetermined reference value upon starting of the vehicle. A communication unit transmits a fuel mixing occurrence to an in-vehicle controller in response to determining that the fuel mixing has occurred.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR BYPASSING A COMPROMISED ENGINE CYLINDER

A system includes a controller having at least one processing circuit including at least one memory coupled to at least one processor. The controller is configured to: receive data regarding operation of an engine indicating that one or more cylinders of a plurality of cylinders of the engine is compromised; cause the engine to operate in a modified engine operating mode whereby operation of the one or more cylinders that is compromised is modified; cause the engine to operate in a non-modified engine operating mode whereby operation of the one or more cylinders that is compromised is not modified responsive to receiving information regarding a predetermined condition despite the data regarding operation of the engine indicating that the one or more cylinders of the plurality of cylinders of the engine is compromised.

Liquid Filter Fuel Consumption Estimation

A system and method for monitoring the negative impact of a filtration system on the fuel economy of an internal combustion engine. A filter monitoring controller receives engine operating parameters of the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring controller determines an amount of power generated by the internal combustion engine based at least in part on the engine operating parameters. The filter monitoring controller determines a filter hydraulic power consumption of a filtration system providing a fluid to the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring controller determines a fuel economy impact of the filtration system on the internal combustion engine based at least in part on the filter hydraulic power consumption of the filtration system. The filter monitoring controller compares the fuel economy impact of the filtration system to a threshold fuel economy impact to determine whether a filter element of the filtration system requires servicing.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING AN EGR SYSTEM
20190249629 · 2019-08-15 ·

Methods and systems for diagnosing operation of an exhaust gas recirculation system of an internal combustion engine are described. In one example, the EGR system is diagnosed while an engine that includes the EGR system is not rotating and combusting fuel. The EGR system is diagnosed when the engine is not operating so that vehicle passengers are not disturbed by the diagnostic and so that flow estimates through the EGR system may not be disturbed by pressure changes that may be related to combustion within the engine.

A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING TIME DATA RELATING TO A NON-COMBUSTION OUTLET PROCESS OF A FUEL GAS FROM A GAS TANK AT A VEHICLE

The present invention relates to a method, system, vehicle, and computer program product for determining time data relating to a non-combustion outlet process of a fuel gas from a gas tank associated with a vehicle. The method comprises providing a model for the state of fuel gas in the gas tank. The method further comprises determining time data relating to the outlet process of the fuel gas based on the model.
