20220235696 · 2022-07-28 · ·

There is provided a control device for an internal combustion engine including a variable-capacity turbocharger, which has a turbine with a variable nozzle and an actuator that controls the variable nozzle opening degree, and a throttle disposed in an intake passage. The control device includes an electronic control unit (ECU). The ECU include a first control mode as a control mode for the intake air amount. When an air amount range on the high flow rate side including a maximum value of a required air amount for the internal combustion engine is defined as a high air amount range, the ECU controls the actuator and the throttle so as to increase the throttle opening degree while maintaining the variable nozzle at a fully-closed opening degree as the required air amount is increased in the high air amount range on the side of the maximum value in the first control mode.

A method for operating an internal combustion engine having at least one fuel injector that is activated for opening and closing via a solenoid valve of a respective fuel injector. Commencing with the activation of the fuel injector for opening, structure-borne sound waves emitted by the fuel injector over the time are detected by measurement. A structure-borne sound wave signal detected by measurement over the time is evaluated such that dependent on the amount of at least one maximum of the structure-borne sound wave signal and/or dependent on the number of the maximums of the structure-borne sound wave signal and/or in the presence of multiple maximums dependent on the time sequence and/or on the amount of the maximums, an operating state of the respective fuel injector is deduced.

A metering valve supplies fuel to and block fuel from a pressurizing chamber by moving a valve body by switching between energization and de-energization of an electromagnetic unit. An energization control unit performs a valve closing control and a valve opening control to reduce operating sound in one opening and closing period in which the valve body opens and closes. A time control unit controls, on determination that the energizing period of the electromagnetic unit exceeds the upper limit value, a moving speed of the valve body when the valve body moves to a valve closing side, such that the energization period of the electromagnetic unit in the one opening and closing period does not exceed the upper limit value, thereby to cause the energization control unit to perform both the valve closing control and the valve opening control in the one opening and closing period.

INJECTOR ABNORMAL CYLINDER DIAGNOSIS METHOD AND INJECTOR ABNORMALITY DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM BASED ON SIGNAL DEVIATION

An injector failure cylinder diagnosis method based on signal deviation of an injector failure diagnosis system measures, by a controller, noise/vibration signals due to the combustion of an engine, separates an injector abnormal frequency band signal as an injector signal from the noise/vibration signals, divides cylinder number time series data, which use a signal maximum value of the noise/vibration signals as a cylinder #1, into segments, extracts a feature vector after confirming a segment number of the cylinder #1 with a vibration reduction signal of the noise/vibration signals re-measured using one of the cylinders as an idle cylinder and sorting it by injector causing vibration time series data, and confirms a failure injector with the feature vector, thereby independently diagnosing whether the injector for each cylinder is normal or abnormal considering the deviation of the noise/vibration signals between the injectors for each cylinder from the measured noise and vibration signals.

Methods and systems are provided for adjusting noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) limits for a vehicle based on an occupancy level of the vehicle. The occupancy level is inferred based on a number of occupants and their position within a vehicle, and further based on a degree of interaction of a primary occupant with vehicle controls. As the occupancy level decreases, NVH constraints for operating the vehicle are reduced and one or more vehicle operating parameters nay be based on the reduced NVH constraints.

NVH management in diesel CDA modes

A method for entering and exiting cylinder deactivation modes in a diesel engine, comprises monitoring an engine speed from an idle engine speed to a governed engine speed and monitoring an engine load. If the monitored engine speed is the idle engine speed up to the governed engine speed, and if the engine load is less than the predetermined low load condition, then implementation of a cylinder deactivation mode is restricted to one of a 2 cylinder deactivation mode, a 3 cylinder deactivation mode, or a 4 cylinder deactivation mode. A cylinder deactivation mode is selected for engine operation among the 2 cylinder deactivation mode, the 3 cylinder deactivation mode, and the 4 cylinder deactivation mode to operate the engine at an effective frequency that avoids two resonant frequencies of the vehicle and to operate the engine below a torsional vibration limit.

Engine monitoring apparatus

A method of monitoring the usage of an internal combustion engine comprises performing an engine monitoring routine using a local monitoring device attached to an internal combustion engine. The engine monitoring routine includes generating data representative of a plurality of vibrations of an internal combustion engine using a vibration sensor of the local monitoring device, processing the generated data to determine a first value representative of a firing frequency of the internal combustion engine, generating an aggregated summary based on the first value and transmitting the aggregated summary and identification data for the local monitoring device to a remote application. The remote application processes the transmitted aggregated summary based on the identification data to determine engine speed usage data.
