ELECTRONIC EVAPORTIVE EMISSIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
An evaporative emissions control system configured for use with a vehicle fuel tank includes a purge canister, an accelerometer, first and second vent tubes that terminate at first and second vent openings, a first vent valve, a second vent valve, a vent shut-off assembly and a control module. The accelerometer senses acceleration in an x, y and z axis. The first vent valve is fluidly coupled to the first vent tube. The second vent valve is fluidly coupled to the second vent tube. The vent shutoff assembly selectively opens and closes the first and second valves. The control module estimates a location of liquid fuel based on the sensed acceleration from the accelerometer and determines which vent opening is one of submerged and about to be submerged based on the estimated location of the liquid fuel. The control module closes the vent valve associated with the determined vent opening.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COORDINATED EXHAUST TEMPERATURE CONTROL WITH ELECTRIC HEATER AND ENGINE
A system includes an aftertreatment system coupled to an engine, a heater, at least one sensor configured to determine an exhaust gas temperature, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit is structured to determine whether the exhaust gas temperature is at or below a predefined threshold temperature; provide a first command to control the heater in response to the exhaust gas temperature being at or below the predefined threshold temperature; selectively provide a second command to increase the exhaust gas temperature; and coordinate the first and second commands, where the first command is provided followed by the second command only if the predefined threshold temperature is not attained by the first command.

Method for the model-based control and regulation of an internal combustion engine
A method for model-based open-loop and closed-loop control of an internal combustion engine, in which method injection system setpoint values for activating the injection system control elements are calculated dependent on a setpoint torque by a combustion model, and gas path setpoint values for activating the gas path control elements are calculated by a gas path model. The combustion model is adapted during ongoing operation of the internal combustion engine. A quality measure is calculated by an optimizer dependent on the injection system setpoint values and the gas path setpoint values, the quality measure is minimized by the optimizer by varying the injection system setpoint values and gas path setpoint values within a prediction horizon. The injection system setpoint values and gas path setpoint values are set by the optimizer, based on the minimized quality measure, as being definitive for setting of the operating point of the internal combustion engine.
Injection controller
An injection controller includes a control IC outputting an energization instruction signal to apply a peak current to a fuel injection valve (i.e., an instruction TQ), and a current monitor unit detecting an electric current flowing in the fuel injection valve. The control IC corrects an output OFF time of the energization instruction signal based on a difference between (i) an integrated current of an ideal current profile which serves as a target current before reaching the peak current and (ii) an integrated current of an energization current in the fuel injection valve detected by the current monitor unit (i.e., an effective TQ).
Fuel contamination monitor
An apparatus to detect contaminants in a fuel comprises an input to receive a fuel flow. A light scattering system is coupled to the input. An imaging system is coupled to the light scattering system. A memory is coupled to the imaging system. A processor is coupled to the memory. Output signals from the imaging and light scattering systems are transferred to the processor. The processor is configured to cause the light scattering system to monitor the light scattering intensity from the contaminants in the fuel flow. The processor is configured to cause the light scattering system to measure a light scattering intensity signal from the contaminants in the fuel flow. The processor is configured to generate a trigger signal to turn on the imaging system when the light scattering intensity is greater than a predetermined threshold.
Method of estimating oxygen storage capacity of catalyst
An engine system for a vehicle includes an internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas outlet, an exhaust system having a three-way catalyst and a switch-type post oxygen sensor, and an engine control module that controls the engine system. The engine control module includes a first control logic for estimating a three-way catalyst oxygen storage capacity based on a plurality of measured inputs, a second control logic for estimating aging effects of the switch-type post oxygen sensor, and a third control logic that calculates a filtered estimated three-way catalyst oxygen storage capacity for the three-way catalyst.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COORDINATED EXHAUST TEMPERATURE CONTROL WITH ELECTRIC HEATER AND ENGINE
A system includes an aftertreatment system having a catalyst, a heater, at least one sensor configured to determine an exhaust gas temperature, and a controller. The controller is structured to determine whether the exhaust gas temperature is at or below a predefined threshold temperature, provide a first command to start and control the heater in response to the exhaust gas temperature being at or below the predefined threshold temperature, modulate control of the heater as a function of the predefined threshold temperature and an actual temperature, and selectively provide a second command for a close post injection based on the exhaust gas temperature. The controller is further structured to coordinate the first and second commands using a chaining sequence, wherein the first command is provided followed by the second command only if the predefined threshold temperature is not attained by the first command.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR EGR SYSTEM
