Method to elevate idle speed to launch a vehicle with manual transmission
A method of controlling an idle speed for an engine of a vehicle includes the steps of sensing a vehicle speed. At least one of a parking brake position and a clutch position is also sensed. When it is determined that the vehicle speed is below a maximum vehicle speed, and either the parking brake is released or the clutch is depressed, the engine idle speed is increased from a base idle speed to a launch idle speed.
Apparatus and method for controlling hybrid vehicle having electric superchargers
An apparatus and a method for controlling a hybrid vehicle are provided. The apparatus includes an engine that generates power by combusting fuel and a drive motor that supplements the power from the engine and operates selectively as an electric generator to produce electrical energy. A clutch is disposed between the engine and the drive motor and a battery supplies electrical energy to the drive motor and is charged with the electrical energy produced by the drive motor. Multiple electric superchargers are installed in multiple intake lines through which outside air to be supplied into a combustion chamber of the engine flows. A controller determines an operation mode of the multiple electric superchargers based on required power of a driver and a state of charge (SOC) of the battery and adjusts the power output from the engine and the power output from the drive motor.
Engine system
An engine system provided to a vehicle having an accelerator pedal is provided. When an engine operation range is determined to shift to a first range (where an electromagnetic clutch is disengaged) from a second range (where the clutch is engaged) after an opening of the accelerator pedal increases at a rate below a given reference rate, the clutch is switched from ON to OFF after a given basic stand-by period passes from the shift. When the engine operation range is determined to shift from the second range to the first range after the accelerator pedal opening increases at the given reference rate or above, the clutch is switched from ON to OFF after a given acceleration stand-by period (longer than the basic stand-by period by a given added period) passes from the shift.
Control device and vehicle
Provided is a control device for a vehicle, the vehicle including an internal combustion engine, a generator capable of being rotated by the internal combustion engine, a battery that stores power generated by rotation of the generator, and a motor that is supplied with power from the battery and outputs a driving force to a drive wheel, wherein, at a timing at which a requested output, which is requested when the internal combustion engine is operating with the internal combustion engine and the drive wheel not mechanically connected to each other and the internal combustion engine is performing a stoichiometric operation that operates in accordance with a theoretical air-to-fuel ratio, is equal to or greater than a threshold value, the control device starts to increase the number of rotations of the internal combustion engine to the number of rotations set in a rich operation where a ratio of a fuel of the internal combustion engine to oxygen is higher than the theoretical air-to-fuel ratio.
ENGINE CONTROLLING METHOD AND ENGINE SYSTEM
A method of controlling an engine is provided, which includes setting, by a controller, a target torque of the engine in a specific cycle in the future by a given delay time from the present time based on a present accelerator opening. The method includes selecting beforehand, by the controller, combustion in the specific cycle according to the target torque, from flame propagation combustion and compressed self-ignition combustion. The method includes outputting, by the controller, a control signal to a property adjusting device before the specific cycle so that a property inside the cylinder in the specific cycle becomes a property corresponding to the selected combustion. The method includes estimating, by the controller, the property at a timing when an intake valve is closed in the specific cycle. The method includes outputting, by the controller, a control signal corresponding to the estimated property to a spark plug or an injector.
ENGINE SYSTEM AND ENGINE CONTROLLING METHOD
An engine system is provided, which includes a vehicle-mounted engine having an injector, a spark plug, an intake valve operating mechanism, and an exhaust valve operating mechanism, an accelerator opening sensor, and a controller. The engine is configured to execute flame propagation combustion and compressed self-ignition combustion. The controller performs a combustion control so that a target torque set based on an accelerator opening is realized in a specific cycle in the future from a present time by a given delay time. The controller sets beforehand the combustion mode based on a target load, estimates an in-cylinder property when the intake valve is closed in the present cycle, sets a target in-cylinder property so that the set combustion mode is realized in the specific cycle, and sets a target operating amount of each of the intake and exhaust valve operating mechanisms based on the set target in-cylinder property.
The controller sets beforehand a combustion mode so that a target torque set based on an accelerator opening is realized in a specific cycle in the future from a present time by a given delay time, sets an in-cylinder property when an intake valve is closed in the specific cycle so that the set combustion mode is realized in the specific cycle, estimates the actual in-cylinder property when the intake valve is closed in the specific cycle, when the delay time passes and the cycle becomes the specific cycle, and adjusts an operating amount of at least one of the injector and the spark plug, when the estimated in-cylinder property deviates from the target in-cylinder property.
Method for determining an air mass and direct water injection system
A method for determining an air mass in an air separator of a water direct injection system for injecting a water/fuel mixture into a combustion chamber of an engine of a motor vehicle. The air separator is disposed between a water pump for delivering water of the water/fuel mixture and a high-pressure pump for feeding the water/fuel mixture to a high-pressure injector for injecting the water/fuel mixture into the combustion chamber. The method includes increasing a pressure of the water from a first pressure value to a second pressure value by the water pump, determining a water volume delivered by the water pump during the increasing of the pressure of the water by the water pump, and determining the air mass in the air separator on a basis of the determined water volume delivered by the water pump.
Multi-function engine control and input system
An assembly for an engine includes a control module including a controller operable to control at least certain aspects of the operation of the engine, a display including an input connected to the controller, and a wireless receiver connected to the controller. The wireless receiver is arranged to receive a signal from a wireless device to cause the controller to send an engine start signal to cause starting of the engine and wherein the input when actuated causes the controller to send an engine start signal to cause starting of the engine. In at least some implementations, no keyed ignition switch is provided to start the engine and the engine is started only via the wireless device or the input.

A method and system for operating a vehicle that includes an integrated starter/generator and a driveline disconnect clutch is described. In one example, the method estimates engine torque as a function of engine temperature during cold engine starts so that if an estimate of engine torque is in error, the integrated starter/generator may still successfully start the engine.
