Intake ports with connecting passage for a diesel engine

An engine structure configured to a control swirl in a diesel engine combustion chamber and a diesel engine assembly including the engine structure defines first and second intake ports and a connecting passage connecting the first and second intake ports. The first intake port is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber and configured to direct a first intake airflow into the combustion chamber, and the second intake port is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber and configured to direct a second intake airflow into the combustion chamber. The connecting passage connects the first intake port to the second intake port and is defined by the engine structure outside of the combustion chamber.

In-combustion chamber flow control device

Provided is an in-combustion chamber flow control device used in an engine having an intake passage connected to an intake opening formed in a ceiling surface of a combustion chamber, at an angle inclined with respect to a direction of an axis of a cylinder. This in-combustion chamber flow control device comprises a plasma actuator (28) disposed inside the combustion chamber (16). The plasma actuator comprises: a dielectric body (38) disposed along the ceiling surface (16a) of the combustion chamber, at a position closer to a center of the ceiling surface than the intake opening (18a); an exposed electrode (40) disposed on one side of the dielectric body facing the combustion chamber; and an embedded electrode (42) disposed on a side opposite to the exposed electrode across the dielectric body. The embedded electrode is disposed at a position closer to the intake opening than the exposed electrode.

Fuel injector and nozzle assembly having spray duct with center body for increased flame liftoff length

A fuel injector includes a nozzle body, and spray ducts coupled to the nozzle body and in spray path alignment with spray orifices therein. A nozzle check is movable within the nozzle body to open and close the spray orifices. Each of the spray ducts defines a duct center axis, and includes a center body forming, together with a duct inner surface, a spray jet passage circumferential of the duct center axis and reduced in area in a direction of spray jet advancement from the nozzle body.
