Vehicle heating system and method

Methods and system for providing heat to a vehicle are presented. In one example, a heat pump supplies thermal energy to an engine to reduce engine emissions during engine starting. Further, heating the engine via the heat pump may also reduce engine friction at colder ambient temperatures where oil viscosity may be increased.

Air recirculation prevention check valve for the fuel drain manifold
11255305 · 2022-02-22 · ·

A manifold configured to inhibit air recirculation in an engine fueling system, the manifold comprising: a housing including an internal chamber in communication with a high pressure pump (“HPP”) port configured to receive drain fuel from a HPP; a drain port configured to return fuel to a fuel tank; an air bleed port configured to receive air bled from the fueling system; and a check valve positioned within the internal chamber, the check valve configured to inhibit air from flowing from the air bleed port to the HPP port, thereby inhibiting air recirculation into the engine fueling system.

Liquefied gas treatment system for vessel

Provided is a liquefied gas treatment system for a vessel, which includes a cargo tank storing liquefied natural gas (LNG), and an engine using the LNG as fuel. The liquefied gas treatment system includes: a compressor line configured to compress boil-off gas (BOG) generated in the cargo tank by a compressor and supply the compressed BOG to the engine as fuel; a high pressure pump line configured to compress the LNG stored in the cargo tank by a pump and supply the compressed LNG to the engine as fuel; and a heat exchanger configured to liquefy a part of BOG, which is compressed by the compressor, by exchanging heat with BOG that is discharged from the cargo tank and transferred to the compressor.

Turbulated immersion heat-exchange apparatus
09719728 · 2017-08-01 ·

A submersible heat-exchanging apparatus for installation into storage tanks used for containing industrial oils. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical heat-exchange component with one end sealingly engaging a terminal plug and the other end sealingly engaging and communicating with a coupling manifold having opposed inflow and outflow ports. A flow-directing elongate insert is provided with one end configured to engage the coupling manifold interposed the inflow and outflow ports, and the other end provided with an aperture and configured for abutting the terminal plug. The flow-directing elongate insert slidingly contacts and cooperates with the inner walls of the heat-conductive conduit thereby partitioning the heat-conductive conduit into two opposed fluid transmission channels wherein one channel communicates with the inlet port and the other channel communicates with the outlet port. The coupling manifold sealingly engages an aperture provided in the storage tank whereby the heat-exchange component extends into the tank.

Method and device for heating fuel for an internal combustion engine
09719442 · 2017-08-01 · ·

A method for heating fuel upon start-up of a hybrid vehicle combustion engine, in which method temperature of fuel and temperature outside the vehicle are compared against a first threshold below which starting of the vehicle is forbidden, and against a second threshold higher than the first threshold and above which the engine will start without the fuel being heated. The fuel is heated by exchange of heat with a cooling circuit for the vehicle battery when the external temperature is between the two thresholds.
